Unfortunately Coleman discontinued the Geosport, so get really good at patching up your old one.

We've developed a structure anchored to a Geosport, and love it. It's been very stable and reliable at least in the conditions that prevailed 2009-10.

Can you say "NeoConservative Christian Fascism? ha ha you basically invoked Hitler. Well done. The course of the festival changes into the future, where the precedent is that anyone can come along and burn whatever they want, destroy whatever they want, kill or endanger whoever they want, whenever they feel like it. Or stalk someone and kill them and use the event as cover to get away with i...

Re: And then theres.....

Lets not forget that many people people go to the burn to rush the flames of the fallen man and throw a piece of wood with writing on it or some such thing. Did you ever think of the pagan perspective? I love how one moment you want to write a prayer on a piece of wood in the Temple and the next yo...

Re: Felonious Arson

When did "radical self expression" become an excuse for acting like an asshole or drunk fratboy? How did that happen? And burning the man on Sat. night most clearly is a show. Yes it's canned, boring, repetitive and at this point lacking much creativity. Nonetheless, it is a significant effort to p...

Re: Felonious Arson

Why is it that most respondents on ePlaya don't get it that the felonious arsonist Paul Addis committed his crime against me, you, and every single ticket holder?!?! It's not a Cirque du Soleil show. It's Burning Man - whatever happens, that's the experience. Get knocked in the head by a 2 by 4 at ...

The Man will probably require an armed guard at all future events.

I suggest a shoot on sight rule. Just to be safe.

Re: Give me some Stanley

There was a good Copernican shift to it I liked the guy who was shooting "Stanley" at people. That was clearly their version of Larry Harvey. I thought the whole episode was hilarious. I googled, but have since lost the link, that this episode was filmed at a private ranch near San Diego, CA. I tho...

I don't know if anyone else posted this, but, I think the question here is: is anyone making money on it? Suppose the venue needed to be rented for an event. Then the venue is making money. Does that count? And do you get special events insurance? In that case the insurance company is making money....

And to rehash some personal history: The reason I got into trance organizing (I don't characterize these as raves, they are psy parties, and an outgrowth of the Goa phenomenon) was a trip to Burning Man. So this is what I'm asking, what should the criteria be? how about, none of the above. The criterion imho should be that eplaya fosters alternative creative community regardless of cash flow. That by defining yourself in terms of profit you allow the mainstream to define YOU instead of you directin...

Chai Guy wrote:More often than not, amazon.com operates at a loss, should they be allowed to advertise here?
 What an idiotic analogy. IMHO.

Along those lines, the BMORG LLC shouldn't be allowed to operate at Burning Man, because it is a corporation like amazon.

A for-profit event by "burners" for "burners" would seem to violate the TOS IMHO, regardless of how you marketed it, and regardless of how much or how little profit was expected to be realized. My event operates at a loss/zero gain, not even a "little profit". To me that is the definition of gift e...

More to the point: is ePlaya only for "official" "approved" Burning Man events? Are other forms of alternative culture allowed, encouraged, nourished? I go to local Chicago Burning Man events that are fundraisers for a local camp, and they charge admission at the door. Hi, 1. It's not "commerce" nobody is making a penny off this event and we will probably lose a bit of money on it. I hope not too much. But to portray this as profitable is ludicrous. 2. It's not a rave, its a psy party which is a big part of Burning Man itself, whether you accept that or not. 3. I ...

Barlow, Pesce respond

I wrote to Barlow and Pesce directly and both of them finally responded. Barlow completely backpeddled and said he just meant to say Burners should be more politically active. Well, sure. But that wasn't the sense of his essay at all, which was a scathing critique of Burners with its "self imposed g...

Re: Barlow and Pesce as alpha males

Here is what Barlow and Pesce seem to have in common. Pesce thinks we're becoming a cult, creating our own mythology, deluding ourselves that what we do actually means something & leading ourselves down the road to some place dangerous. Pesce has responded to me privately. He knows we're talking ab...

Anybody can do anything they want at Burning Man, Not anymore. And as it gets bigger, the less freedom of action you will have. Barlow essay on Burning Man and Schwartzenegger

I encourage you to read, and comment on, this beautiful John Perry Barlow essay about Burning Man and the recent election of a new governor in California. It was put on the web by Chaffyn and comes from a mailing list that Barlow broadcasts from on occasion: http://www.wf.net/~aardvark/ee/000hold/ba...
