Re: Hydrogen Peroxide
I recently went to the first aid training at BMHQ. Our trainer advised against using it.

Re: I have some solar battery charging questions
Here's my setup: BATTERY - Mity Mite 12 Amp Hour 12VDC SOLAR PANEL 13W 17.5VDC 750ma Can I simply connect the panel directly to the battery to charge it during the day? I will be running a 10V fan during the day off the battery at the same time. The solar panel does have a diode to...

Good currency for slave auction?
Not sure if this should go under Theme Camps instead, but anyways... Last year, some folks from my camp and I went to Temple of Atonement's slave auction. It was interesting, but we didn't get the experience that we wanted, because our barter items were not acceptable by the auctioneer. Like a total...

Re: Last minute virgin anxiety
I was in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago (and posted to eplaya accordingly). We have a lot of ants at my house as well. Checklists are working well for me. They help you get a concrete idea of what you have and what you need. Checking off items has a profoundly satisfying effect, probably ...

How to clean a bike afterwards?
How can a bike stay usable after it returns home from exposure to this year's very dusty playa? I found the following tips: *Clean the bike as soon as possible, so that the combination of humidity and dust can't rust it. *Use a vinegar-and-water solution on everything. *After the vinegar-and-water s...

Re: Don's Dome Hostel?
I'm betting that people will be more amenable to your dome taking up this much space if you happen to offer space in said shade to people who brought gear but weren't clear on what actually constitutes "shade structure".
That indeed is one of my motivations. I want the sp...

The plan is a pentagon dome (q.v. geometrydome.com) with guy lines coming off the 2nd-level vertices parallel to the roof struts. The guy lines will enable load-bearing suspension within the dome. Cover the guy lines with kite-shaped tarps to form 4 side rooms. Trigonometry yields the following: The...

Limit on spatial size of camp?
Is there an enforced limit on the amount of space that I can claim for my camp upon arrival, assuming I don't annex space already being used by another camp or reserved for a theme camp?
I'd like to get about 1600 square feet.

speaker volume
I'm assembling a sound system, which I'll use to play recordings of modern synthesizer-based dance music. At present, I have a 40-watt amplifier powering two 8-ohm speakers. It sounds very powerful when I test it out in my house, where rooms are generally less than 15 feet wall-to-wall, but I'm wond...

How does the width of the hardware cloth squares affect evaporation? I tried a thought experiment: small squares=divide water into small units, so more surface area large squares=greater water:wire ratio, so more surface area Result: Inconclusive. In practice, which works better: large squares or sm...

Looking for billboard vinyl (or other heavy duty cover)
This might belong in Share Resources, but I want to try doing this myself first before I ask for a gift. After realizing that a parachute will probably cause too many problems, I'm trying to get a used billboard or two to cover my shade structure (it's a geometrydome). But both of the major players ...

If I don't belong to a registered theme camp...
Can I still set up my structure somewhere within A-K if I arrive on 8/27 at around 8 a.m., or are the inner arcs only available to registered camps?

Thank you for the reality check, one and all. I followed the geometrydome.com instructions and made a PVC-and-rope dome all by myself yesterday. It is spacious and stable; it makes my self-confidence engorged and turgid. I feel capable regarding all aspects of my camp now. Good luck to all of you wi...

Each year, when I dream about the week, the city gets denser and more urban sprawl, more industrialized. It started as a gravelly desert with yucca and scrub-brush, and a nearby overpass, where people who refused to go home after Exodus stayed camped out around flickering fires. Then an enormous par...

I'm nervous
I'm trying to put it all together at the last minute, on account of I just decided to go last week. So that means planning. Thinking about stuff like costumes and gifts just distracts me, keeps me from getting my essentials together: 1. food 2. shade 3. energy 4. waste management I have to do it by ...
