Not me.

Welcome all, but lose the guilt.

Unlike college campuses obsessed with such things, BM is about DIVERSITY OF IDEAS.

Burning Man is not a need. It is a luxury. Best thing I've heard yet. Perhaps I'm naive, but why don't: 1. the people who organize the event decide whether to have a center camp and what to put there, 2. those who don't like it not go there, and 3. those who like it go there. Personally, I found th...

Using the judicial system has proven to be an effective means of eliminating neo-Nazi cults and their assets; it will be equally effective against counter-culture societies and their festivals. I agree. Here are a couple of cynical quotes about the law I wrote a few years ago: "The law is a confuse...

Re: Good BM article

Check out mark Morford's SF Gate article. He's one of the few journalists that can convey some of the experience: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/gate/archive/2003/09/03/notes090303.DTL I liked Mark Morford's article so much, I decided to post a piece of it: "...this event is still ...

Re: Possetion of Roling papers...

we had a couple of guys at our camp (Intel. hostel) issued 250$ tickets for possetion of roling papers, they were picked up by an undercover art golf cart with a guy in drag and a girl. Let me guess... he looked like those guys with beards who dress up for ladies night in the Budweiser commercial. :D

"gift economy" = "I take what I want, and fuck you" Gift giving without expectation of anything in return was a wonderful experience for my wife and I. As many of you have probably experienced, we felt like we got more than we gave, both materially and otherwise. I was stunned by the overwhelming a...

Re: Burning Man the safest spot on Earth?

...BRC in 2003 was 20 times as dangerous as the state of missouri for auto accidents during labor day weekend. ...you about as ikely to die via auto accident at BM as you are if you live in San Francisco for an entire year. Maybe that should be the new slogan: "Black Rock City: 20 times as dangerou...

Re: Burning Man the safest spot on Earth?

I am thinking now that with all the fatalities and injuries occurred this year, statistics will prove that Black Rock was actually one of the safest cities in America on Labor Day weekend. I agree completely. Despite the accidents, widespread stupidity and inconsiderate behavior, I was amazed to se...

[quote="precipitate"]My point is that you should not attempt to dictate to me how I should be safe. That's my responsibility both when I succeed and when I fail. I like your point. Re: thunderdome

I hate to take the thread off too far but, damn when is that group going to refresh their act a little eh? Yawn. We stood around for an hour, waiting for something to happen. People were all over the dome, just like the movie, and angry looking boys and girls were walking around inside. I thought s...
