Re: Batch Cooking
I did this for the first time last year, after wanting to do it for like six years, and it was fucking amazing. We premade Thai Beef Curry, Indian Chicken Curry, and jambalaya. Then we portioned it out in 3-person meals, and froze them all. Once out there, a big hearty dinner was as simple as making...

Re: Which camp has the best coffee on the playa?
Our coffee should be pretty tasty! We are bringing it from Extracto Coffee House here in Portland, OR. They hand roast their own Fair-Trade blend that is darn good. They'll be roasting 30 pounds for us a few days before we leave, so it will only about a week old once we start serving it! We will be ...

Bamboo is MOOPy?
Hello all! Does anyone have experience with using bamboo on the playa, and it's MOOP factor, if any? We are thinking of creating a bamboo fence along the front of our camp, and want to make absolutely sure that it does not MOOP. We would be sanding down any cuts made in it, and securing it to itself...

Re: What's the best way to transport EMT?
I duct tape mine up into bundles of 5-7, and then wrap all of the bundles in a canvas drop cloth on the roof rack. I use both ratchet straps and paracord to secure the whole thing, and the canvas keeps anything from sliding out the front.

Re: Arrival at gate: Tips? Lines? Timing?
Total crapshoot. We ended up heading in on Monday morning, due to a misplaced checked bag, and didn't hit a second of traffic before the dust, and literally waited for 3 minutes at the Gate. It was amazing. Exodus last year was also amazing, and we waited for about 20 minutes total when we left Mond...

Re: 1 or 2 12 V deep cycle and LED lights?
Yep, gonna need WAY more information before anyone even begins to help you on this. 300+ strips? Or 300+ LEDs total? How many amp-hours is your battery or batteries? You need to monitor the voltage in your batteries to make sure they are not getting too low, because that affects the batteries life s...

Close to 100 pounds? Or close to 1,000 pounds?
I have a 24' dome, and it weighs in around 900 pounds, so if it is 100 pounds, that must be a eensy dome

Re: Wood cube structure idea...workable?
What size wood are you using? It looks square in the sketch, but I can't imagine you're planning on using 1x1's. 2x4's? I worry about your corner joints, as using only screws or nails through the end of 2x4's is NOT a sound way to build a structure. Joists or brackets, as previously mentioned, are a...

Hello Sacred Spaces Village! Your village sounds pretty cool! What else do you require or look for in a camp that joins your village, other than it being similar to what you do? Do you have dues? What do you offer to the camps within your village, such as power, etc.? My girlfriend and I were instru...

Has anyone attempted to fly with the 5 gallon bucket swamp cooler? Exactly - thats what took the wind out of my swamp coolin sails. I had no...

Any other east coasters bringing cool air to the desert? Interested how its being accomplished for ya. Yea, I'm not sure why one would take the time to fabricate such a wrong response. Maybe they love to hear themselves talk. But, as mentioned before, JRS states clearly that there will be water in Gerlach. Also, your logic that Gerlach could not be selling water because it is in the desert is just in...

10 MPH average? Have you done much, or any, bicycle touring? On a loaded, upright touring bike, on pavement one averages about 12 MPH. This is on a high end touring bike, weighing in around 30 pounds, plus at least 40 pounds of racks, panniers and gear. So, 12 MPH on pavement with a ~75 pound rig. T...

It does have grid power, but we are assuming a single 20 amp breaker per site (and yes, we have reserved sites with electricity). In my experience, this is not going to be enough to heat our big dome, plus run lighting and other things that need power. We have pretty much decided to go with this: ht...

I took my van in 2007. As soon as I got there, at the Greeter's Station, a drunk Greeter walked up the hood of my car and onto the roof. In the process put a large dent in the hood, cracked the windshield, and a large dent in the roof. Many hundreds of dollars in damage in the first few minutes on p...
