Re: Low Income Ticket Program
I've read the details about the program. Has anyone applied and gotten one or been denied? If you got denied, were you able to get a ticket in the next tier? (if you had the funds of course) I've applied and gotten one on one year, and then applied and was denied another year. It's supposedly not a...

I figured. Are you implying the server time could have been off by a minute or more?gateway wrote: When you do a request to the server it doesn't care about your clock on your computer, it has its own server timestamp which is in UTC.

Re: Was there a waiting room problem?
I'd wager those people simply have clocks that are a minute fast, they actually got in the waiting room just before the cutoff, and they were lucky enough to be in the first batch to leave the queue. I doubt it. Unless people manually change their OS settings, their computers are automatically sync...

Re: Was there a waiting room problem?
how many tickets will be put out in general this year 70k? That would leave maybe around 15k of tickets still avail in other sales/programs.. ?? I got 66,000 total by adding up the numbers at tickets.burningman.com. (I guess the remaining 4,000 are Low Income tickets.) In the upcoming sales, there ...

Re: Main Sale
Two tickets per purchase is fine. Everyone I know goes with someone. One per purchase would double the load on the system. I don't see what anyone would gain. Will somebody please think of the load on the system?! It's good that it works out for couples. I assume you don't know any single att...

Re: Main Sale
This brings up one of the interesting ideas that has been floated: 1 ticket per person. Period, end of story. MyLarry would never, ever get a ticket then. Plenty of couples attend and would not find the single ticket option appealing. But then we could advise them to email support, and utilize STEP...

Re: Was there a waiting room problem?
Well, let me put it this way. If anyone who was in the waiting room did not get an opportunity to purchase a ticket, then - if the system worked as intended - the only people who could have gotten tickets were other people who were in the waiting room. No one who arrived after the sale started at 12...

I also think some of the folks who had issues with getting held up in the waiting room a while may possibly have also had more to the story... Trilo, I don't see how your own speculation or reference to anecdotal reports of attempts to game the system are any more helpful than ones that would indic...

It's just a matter of huge numbers of people and an imperfect ticketing system... any meaning you derive is of your own design. Hopefully you'll keep making art no matter what. Take a look at your prep list... if you're seeing phrases like "free-roaming geodesic sphere," "robotic trebuchet," "turducken," "jet fuel x80,000 gallons," etc., it might be time to consider scaling back. Or is it ramping up? ...My prep notes are smudged.

I think it's important to emphasize the fact that there's no time to "slow down," "relax," "catch your breath," "help your friend up," or other such naïve notions. Don't let the fact that the hunters are skipping along in a casual, carefree way give you a false sense that there is a moment to spare....

Well, one thing's for damn sure. The Black Rock Desert is swarming with feral wolfchickens, and all the bacon that people bring to BRC is not exactly driving them away. One of these years those wolfchickens are gonna come pouring down over the mountains like a tidal wave of feathers and sharp beaks ...

I was arriving late one night, probably 2am, setting up my tent in the dark, and suddenly was clocked in the back of the head by a ladder that someone was silently walking through the area in order to go sneak a flag from a rival camp. Neither one of us had any lights. Fortunately I'm extremely thic...

Ayup. I'm not sure why the event gets sliced under that lens. Do all similar "things" get that? Is it the burner "type" to be that suspicious? Is it that Larry Harvey broke some completely imagined social contract? I'm not sure that there are any similar things to BM. A common comparison would be a...

Re: Did you ever have a hard time boarding an Art Car?
I've had a lot more luck getting to board vehicles earlier in the week when there's been fewer people in BRC. I also have never requested to go to any particular destination. I just assume I'm in for a long walk after my ride and enjoy meeting the other people on board. By Thursday, I don't really b...

Your favorite small-scale art
The gigantic installations get a lot of attention due to their sheer spectacular scale. But as I think back through the years, lots of small things have been my favorites. I was thinking it might be a good idea for people to talk about some of the small stuff that could reasonably be made by one or ...

My initial expectation of what my first burn in BRC was gonna be like was that it would be an incredibly fun and frolicsome time among some amazing artwork. I definitely wasn't expecting to get a phone call from a sheriff telling me how sorry she was to have to inform me, etc., three weeks prior. Af...

I can't decide between "Humor in Uniform" or "Go Get Mommy Another Drink." I nominate James Brown's timeless album title, "For Goodness Sakes, Would You Look at Those Cakes?"

Re: I crowd-sourced a video at Burning Man this year
I enjoyed it! Most Burning Man videos (in fact most Burning Man feature-length films) are chaotic assemblages of jump cuts making the event appear to be utterly incoherent and continuously frantic. This was a nice mix of some quick sights and sounds with longer shots that were more patient and explo...
