Adding up the cost of Burning Man

Lets see, ticket price, van rental, gas, food, beverages, replace damaged gear, time lost from work, ice and coffee money, trade goods, I'm up over two grand. Can't take out a home equity loan, it's gone. Guess I'll be staying home this year. It is not worth it to stroll down those empty alleys of f...

Goddess as Kali

You may not have to go to Burning Man this year, it may come to you, an economy where money is valueless, where only the elite will have electric power, lots of structures will be going up in spectacular blazes and Ramen will be the staple food, while it lasts. You can go out and get drunk in the de...

The "Dream" is a jumped shark

Fuck it, I'm going to New York this year instead of to BRC, going to protest the 9/11 coverup on the anniversary of the event. A better use of time and money.

Anger is misdirected

Hey Goathead and others, I'm sorry if my personal observations about the Man are a source of such irritation. I'm sure we all share much in common, much more than separates us. I will admit to being a crybaby, horny, male chauvinist. I don't begrudge anyone their pleasures, they are hard to come by ...

Well Goathead, you seem very in tune with the inner workings of our National Defense forces. Politics is just so much blah, blah, blah and you don't want to bother your buzz cut head with any "issues" while you enjoy the pleasures of the Playa. By all means, enjoy and keep using those emoticons they...

Real recycling

How about a real recycling center that accepts paper, plastic and glass instead of just the profitable aluminum? Ideally a participant could return home with one garbage bag full of organic waste for the compost pile.

Featureless back streets

This year was the first I had to read the street signs to find my camp after the third day. The back streets, which used to proliferate with small bars and interesting instillations were as featureless as the "flat blocks" of a socialist state. There were few landmarks, just an unending wall of rent...

Typical "Goddess Bullshit"
Sounds like another playan didn't get laid at the event this year! NO clitoris for you, Boo Hoo!
No Glittering Clitoris, your tits and ass are not the be all/end all of my life, but you think they are. You have objectified men as horny drones, all desperate for t...

My guess is that Slut was welcome every where she went. I am a middle aged man and a non drinker. Occasionally I would approach a bar with a request for a drink of water. The looks I received from the bartenders before I even made my request were often mildly hostile and uninviting. As if they feare...

I agree, there is a real pecking order at the event. People trying to one up everyone else with their hipness, fake spiritual posturing. An incessant search to fill up the void with any available substance. It all boils down to money in the end. It is a given that you get the Burn you (or a generous...

This was my last burn

This years Burn was my sixth and I won't be going back. I am 56 years old and for six years have been taking my son and a few of his friends to the festival. We always camp and over the years we have learned how to build a successful structure, manage our water and food needs efficiently and take ca...
