You definitely want more shade than that.

If you'd like to sleep past 6AM, you're going to need (at a minimum) shade from the morning sun... not just the afternoon, overhead blast. It gets hot, early, out there.

I wouldn't (especially for your first time out) shoot for a 12:01 AM arrival when the gates open... but if you can get in early that same morning (say, by 8 or 9 AM), you'll have a stupendously easy arrival. Same goes for the next day. Doesn't matter where you're coming from: just shoot for an early...

I second the idea of using marine lights / distress beacons.

I'm a diver and have a very bright xenon strobe I wear on my tank for night dives... and the thing is good for over 72 hours of continuous use (and smaller than a closed fist). Extra points for it being totally water/dust proof.
