What about using CB hand held or UHF radios like the
Motorola VL50 or Motorola BPR 40?

Does anyone have experience with this type of radio. The BPR 40 is a 5 watt.

The bulb is a standard MH base. I've seen them in use in many environments just never on playa. I doubt CFL will give the throw necessary for this application. They will not be exposed to participants pouring drinks on them.

Dust will destroy them. I've had two cameras go to hell because of BM. I've settled on only taking cheap cameras off Ebay with me. I don't need uber mega pixels or other bleeding edge functions like RAW.

I could not believe the story when I heard it. Very glad to hear he survived and isn't too badly injured. Hope he will make a full recovery and be able to return to the playa next year. Perhaps he should move that Safety Third rule further up on his priority list. :P
