Re: Food ideas

Uncle Ben's sells some really yummy flavors of pre-cooked rice. Top that with a packet of flavored Starkist tuna, and you've got a hearty, salty, tasty, and easy to heat meal! :P

The extreme weather foil tape is strongest. But the other stuff works great too.

Yes, I did it with my 18 speed bike last year. I'd like to use a different gear ratio this year.

Re: Bikes: single or multi speed?

Can someone explain which gears to put the chain on when converting an 18-speed bike into a single speed?

3 gears at the pedals and 6 at the rear wheel. Which combination would be best, especially considering there won't be as many dunes as the last couple years.

Galvanized Anchor Bolts?

Went to HD today to get a few 12" rebar for stakes, in the same section I saw Galvanized anchor bolts 10" and longer which have a bend in the end. I would like to use these rather than bending rebar or putting tennis balls on top of rebar. Anyone have experience using these in the playa? Here are th...

Used ski goggles at the thrift store. $2. Tinted for day time, clear for night time. They have air vents protected with foam to keep the snow/dust out!

Re: Cars - Expensive and Dirty business

I always turn off all the vents and keep the windows rolled up when off the pavement (even if it's hot). Once I find my campsite, I lock the car and never open until exodus day. Stays pretty clean inside that way. Once on pavement again, I open the vents and turn on the a/c, a little poof of playa d...

Re: storing your cooler inside hexayurt - reflectix or no?

The hexayurt will keep your cooler cool enough (provided you have enough ice/dry ice). I don't see a need for reflectix on the cooler, although it wouldn't hurt.

I keep my beers chilled (not ice cold) inside of my solar powered homemade swamp cooler!

Re: HexaYurts

The first year with my 6' yurt, I used two strips of 2 1/2" duct tape at each seam, then covered that with foil tape. The foil tape kept the sun off the duct tape and made it look super cool on the outside and light proof on the inside! While the taping took much longer, it was very strong and It di...

[quote="Qwack Masterson"]Howdy Y'all. Has anyone tried using a plain old "accessory car fan" for this project? it would seem to be a natural fit for a 12v fan that runs off of a cig. lighter plug. Here's the fan I've used for 3 years now! I made a rubbermaid style swamp cooler. It's powerful and doesn't suck too much power.

Plus after the first day or two, the panels get coated in playa dust, which greatly reduces the reflectivity anyway.

Re: HexaYurts

My yurt is going on its 4th year now, and I love it. The problem I'm having is the six inch bi-filament tape only lasts one year for me. I do have to store it outside in a tarp for the year between burns. The glue on the tape is dry and no longer stays stuck to the R-Max, so each year I just pull it...

Regarding using a yurt over and over

I've used my yurt 2 years in a row now and love it. I have a question about using it over and over. The six inch bi-filament tape leaves a residue behind when I pull it off. I usually remove it a year later after it has dried and worn out. This residue needs to be scraped of so the new tape will adh...

How to charge 12V battery with my solar panel?

I am trying to charge a 12V battery using my solar panel. I use the battery to power a 12V fan for my homemade swamp cooler.
