Re: Dilemma for a BM Virgin: Best way to get there?

So your "friends" encouraged you to buy a ticket, want a ride in your car, and then told you there is space in their camp for your car but not for you?

Go.

Without them.

Just be careful as you approach Nixon on the 447. The speed limit drops from 45 to 25 on a downhill incline well before the town appears. There is usually a cop right there.

A "great" remedy? Let's see some citations. All the medical references to that plant I've found are either of hippie-science caliber or weakly supported. Furthermore, a medical reference page at the University of Maryland on Calendula states: " Professional homeopaths often recommend...

Who knows, maybe I'm making a huge deal out of something small and everything will be fine.. This is not small. Your inner being is telling you something. Listen to it. Everything will be fine if you put yourself first and stop making excuses for your ex. Finally, DO NOT GIVE HIS GIRLFRIEND A RIDE ...

Great remedy for sunburn

Unless you plan on going out exclusively when it is dark, it is nearly impossible to avoid some degree of sunburn on the playa. Not to worry. Calendula is a great remedy. Your skin (and your newest best friend's skin) will thank you. It comes in a gel or cream, and both work well. Calendula can be f...

Re: Disagreement With Pershing County Could Raise 2013 Costs

It seems like there is always some legal wrangling going on. Is this any more significant than the numerous other issues the BORG has had to navigate in the past? Of course it's about the money, but I find it more troubling that Pershing County wants to impose their own set of rules on the event. Re...

Contractor bags work best

I have found this tip buried in some other threads but thought it was worth bringing up again.

For your trash, use the thickest bags you can find. Contractor bags work very well. A ripped trash bag on the playa will make your life miserable.

Happy trails!!!

Unless you are a seasoned camper and road tripper, option #1 is the best plan. A few things to consider: Is this your first burn? If so, chances are it will take you hours longer to pack than you anticipate. You must also factor in stops along the way to get your final provisions. Combined with the ...

Re: Sledgehammer weight for pounding rebar

Any sledgehammer should be fine for 1/2" rebar. A short handle is easier to use and pack. If you have any doubts, go outside and practice. And remember to have a plan for covering your rebar and removing it from the ground on cleanup day.

There is a lot of treasure to be found on the playa. Here are two great places to look:

If you see an unoccupied couch in Center Camp, go and dig under the cushions.

At the first hint of daybreak go and look around on the ground near the Opulent Temple.

It looks OK but not great. That pole that holds the rainfly out will almost certainly break, but you can carry on with it broken anyhow. There is really no way to keep dust out regardless of mesh, and mesh has the advantage of keeping your tent cooler. Just ziploc all your clothes and electronic val...

Trunk bike rack safety

If you are driving to BRC in a sedan and plan on hauling your bikes using a trunk bike rack, proceed with caution. Those racks, especially the cheap ones, are fraught with hazard (for you and potentially other people on the road). Here is what I learned, sometimes the hard way, in several long rides...

Re: Camel bak, good or bad?

I tried a 1L camelback my first year and didn't like it. It was very hard to drink from if it was less than half full. I'm sure a larger reservoir would have helped. If your primary mode of transportation is biking, it's easier to throw some water bottles into your basket and drink as needed.

Blow up furniture and air mattresses are nice, but do you have a plan B in case they pop? Patch kits work only for tiny leaks. How about some folding chairs? You don't mention bikes. Your experience will be enhanced substantially if you bring bikes. Remember to put baskets on all of your bikes as we...

I'm pretty torn, I will be super sad if I have to miss the Burn but don't want to do something totally reckless and dumb, either. Then don't do something reckless or dumb, whether on the playa or off. Truth be told, you will now need to minimize the risk injury wherever you are. BRC is rather safe,...

If you bring some unripe avocados, they will be perfect to eat after about 48hrs on the playa.

Add some avos to your favorite salsa that comes in a plastic tub shaped container, and you'll have a killer guacamole in two minutes.

You should definitely replace all of your tent stakes with 12" stakes. Do the same for a shade structure. Stakes that come with a tent are near worthless on the playa. As long as your ice pick stakes are at least 1/2" thick, they should be fine. Anything skinnier would be a gamble. Conside...

To the lawsuit filer, Just out of curiosity, do you plan on attending this year as well? Why are you trying to deny others the same experience that you, a long time burner, obviously cherish? Bring a couple of foot long 2x4s to place under your cooler and keep it off the ground. That will prolong the life of your ice. When you leave, you can throw the 2x4s into a burn platform.
