Why does the driver not have a ticket? How are you going to get back out at the end of the event?

Re: About the car search at entry...

When the gate crew searches your vehicle, they're looking for stowaways, dogs, and unapproved mutant vehicles. If your pills are in a small opaque container they won't see them, and even if they did they won't care. They don't have the time or desire to identify every little pill, chocolate, brownie...

Super easy snacks: packets of tuna or salmon with a olive oil or mayo packet mixed in peperoni or summer sausage slices with pre-sliced cheese on crackers cheese sticks yogurt Meals: Mix a raw egg or two into rice when it's almost done cooking, add a packet of salmon and a little soy sauce. Yum! Mac...

Re: air mattress w/ comforter or air mattress w/ sleeping ba

I used to bring both but I never actually used the sleeping bag. A comforter and maybe an extra old blanket should be fine especially if you have a comfortable hoody or something if we get any super cold nights.

Re: sleeping bag recommendations

I was there in 2000 and quite happy on a foam mattress with a couple of thick blankets. If you have room to bring them, blankets are always handy to have around so people can hang around and talk at night or early morning. They all washed out just fine afterwards.

Re: solar panel connectors MC1

Connect the panels in parallel into the controller. Connect the batteries in parallel. It's not the wattage of the controller that matters - it's the maximum voltage it can handle (should be rated for 24v nominal panels) and the maximum amperage it can handle, which for your setup is around 6 amps. ...

Re: Charging deep cycle batteries from multiple sources

I have 3-way charging in my micro-RV. The only scenario you should need to worry about is having the 110v charger and the alternator going at the same time. One of those will have a higher voltage and will try to send current back to the other which may damage something. Or it may be fine depending ...

Re: Van Shade Structure Extending from Roof Rack

When I slept in the back of my truck, I used some light (3/4" perhaps?) PVC across my roof rack. I ran a rope through each pipe down to the wheel, and held the pipe to the rack at the corners using ball bungees. More ball bungees held a sideways pipe close to the ends of the looped ones. A parachute...

Re: New SCOTUS ruling on sniffs

I'm kind of curious myself, even though I never have anything sniff-worthy in my car with me. I have been stopped and given the whole "just tell me what drugs you have before the dogs get here and find it" routine before, and it's nice to know what the regulations actually are.

Re: Solar conversion

If you get a good mppt controller such as a Morningstar it will convert the voltage and you won't have to worry about anything else. Just plug it in and go. The expense is a bit much if you're only using it for one week, but if you have some other year round use it's worth it. Or, put it on ebay and...

Re: Great base for smaller mv?

For every person who says X vehicle won't work you'll find 10 who say they used one and it worked great. I used a unibody 5-speed for a car and it's been driven to/from the burn at least 8 times, operating all week. Anything can be made to work - I'd recommend sticking to whatever type of vehicle yo...

It wasn't burning man but I was near Sturgis at the time of the rally in an out of state hippie van a few weeks ago and got pulled over so it's a similar deal. I had one of those backup cameras that mounts to the license plate, which the officer said was blocking the state at the top of the plate, w...

Re: Luggage allowance

First, make sure you double check the allowances for that specific flight. It used to be that international flights in/out of the US had to allow two checked bags. They do check the size and weights carefully these days though with scales at the checkin counter so no fudging whatever the limits are....

I had a campmate who used his full size hookah pretty much every day and left it out when not using it. Nobody gave it a second look. I think they go more on smell, so don't have it out when there is a strong pot smell in the air AND you have something illegal in your camp. A LEO might smell the pot...

Re: Las Vegas - help with accommodation & preparation

I agree, 5 days in Vegas if you don't gamble is kind of a lot. If you like expensive clubs you can probably keep busy, though. The clubs are becoming more of a focus than gambling these days. Vdara is part of a big complex with Aria (my favorite for poker) and Crystals and is right in the middle of ...

Timing is rough - I had some amazing plums where I used to live, but they ripened a few weeks too late to bring any to the playa. The title I picked seems to be confusing people. It was LIMITED money when I started out. Now it's closer to no money. Still lots of time, though - the abuse I'm putting my body through has yet to take a serious toll.

Re: Unlimited time, limited money, what would you do?

Still alive and happily unemployed. In Vegas for the winter then I'll be hitting the road for the rest of the year. I just need to find a suitable van and scout out a route. Florida, up the east coast and back to BRC should be doable, hopefully without going bust at the poker tables.

Do a google image search for "vintage chinese goggles" and look for the ones with the D-shaped lenses. They fit over glasses and work very well in the desert. I agree. As long as the extent of the modification is clear you shouldn't have a problem. They want to know that you are dramatically altering and hiding the vehicle underneath and that you have thought through any applicable safety issues. If they have any questions they will email you. Good luck!
