... Although, as I type, I could see a huge benefit to improving (there are a number of methods) an alternate route for ingress and egress, ala Jungo or a similar route. If it was a little used path, like Jungo, it has to be upgraded enough for the idiots who will drive it (or toll-booth giving an ...

RV Pumping Update
I was just told by United Site Services that the minimum size to schedule RV pumping for your camp this year is 5 RVs per visit. Otherwise you have to flag down a driver.
Cost is $60 plus a $12.90 environmental fee.

Re: Ive never been to burning man and am trying to go.
If I decided late in the year that I wanted to go and didn't have a ticket, I'd plan to get myself to Reno, making sure i had a vehicle lined up (which may mean that you'll have to fly somewhere else and rent a car there to drive to Reno), bringing all of my camping supplies with me or shipping them...

Re: Looking for Camp to Join - please help
I'm pretty sure that's just a troll message, albeit with a good sense of camouflage. But it IS pretty hard to find info about RV water/pumping on the Playa. To my knowledge, the one company that will bring you water is http://www.meco-reno.com/burningman2014.php (last year's page) and to get it cart...

Mine worked fine, except that I got the anachronism thing at the start (2 minutes - 5 minutes - 9 minutes - 7 minutes - 3 minutes - 2 minutes - 1 minute - less than a minute - done. Elapsed time: 6 minutes, which was never one of the options. Having been trained by previous encounters, I didn't even...

True, you don't absolutely need a generator....but I left out bathing/dishwashing facilities. What is he supposed to do with his gray water?
If you are sharing an RV, it's much cheaper per person than buying all of those things and then getting rid of most of them each year.

If you're that worried about the extra couple bucks due to exchange rate dipping by the hour, I'm curious why you felt compelled to spend the extra 400+ dollars for a rip-off ticket? You are aware that tickets for less then half that amount are available soon, and they're just as easy to obtain. Ti...

Hi there Engineer, glad you like our paper! We're even slower-moving than usual this year, but the Beacon will be back for another fun year of news, views, and corny jokes about bacon. Total population growth last year was 5% Okay, lets not use last year's population growth as indicative of anything, since there was the cap from the permit. Eric: The theme camps are a wide, diverse group. If they're reporting that they received 33 percent of the tickets for which they bid, then on the face of it you can assume that everybody had a one-in-three win rate. Bmorg has said that three times as many bids were received as there were tickets, s...

Re: Why Are So Few Tickets Being Scalped
Trilo, Unless the numbers we're getting from Burning Man are totally off base, only 40% of the tickets went to newbies, so there should be many, many more than 30% of the theme camp members with tickets. There's no way around that. We're not hearing any of the them camps saying "we only got 30% of w...

Re: Why Are So Few Tickets Being Scalped
Scalpers aren't going to list many tickets this early. They'll put up some postings on Stubhub etc., to gauge interest, but there's no point to trying to sell while people are still hoping to get some from STEP and via the Theme Camp sale. Once THAT's over, you can expect to see the sales start. The...

L'il Reality Check: Amtrak from NY to Reno is $212 per person each way, so $848 for 2 people round/trip. Then you have to get to and from the Playa, maybe free, maybe not. Or so I think. You are not the only one to think that! Some virgin burners contribute fantastic things to BRC and some veteran burners contribute very little. Mitch, also, on your data, i think some of your camp mates who said they bid at $390 really didn't, there may have been some confusion between what's tier 1 and what's tier 3 or something. I know we were 4/4 in the $420 sale, and that we were 1/1 at $320 and 2/2 at $240 (!) and then I think we went 6/14 in the $390 sale -- with 2 winning at $240, but I don't know for sure that all of those WERE at $390, except that nobody who lost said they weren't. Re: Do the math: over 50% of tickets went to scalpers
Mitch, what is the data from your theme camp? What bids, what percent of entries in each tier were wins? Our data is approximately: $390 - 7 of 8, $320 - 4 for 6, $240 1 for 7 I'm checking, it's a bit hard to do, we're one of the most dispersed camps, so it takes a while to gather the info. I know ...

Correction to the math done in this thread (except for a few posters): The estimates of how many lottery entrants, based on the probability of them getting tickets, need to be calculated per tier, not overall. From our own camp's results and what's been posted in the more reliable, minimally trolle...
