Plywood

I need as much 3/4 inch plywood as I can get my hands on for a piece of burnable art. Due to extrenuating circumstances with the City of San Francisco my budget has been drastically reduced so any and all donations are greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Nick

While this is a good idea and relatively economical. It is still more than I can afford and very labor intensive. The latest idea is to create a platform using 2x4s an d covering it with pieces of sheet metal (the thin kind that comes in rolls) I'd like to make it by just laying the 2x4s out in a fr...

Ok, I have an idea here

make a frame from 2x4s (with the 4" side vertical) with perimeter and central support Cover this with sheet metal, the kind that you can get in rolls and secure the sheets. what I'm wondering is: how thick should the metal be not to melt under the wood.

wow, that looks great, thanks. I'm wondering, has anyone else had experience with this stuff. Its hard for me to imagine that it will keep the canvas tarp from actually burning.

Would I want to put the sand underneath, on top or both, in relation to the tarp?

Are you going this year?

Economical Scar prevention

Ok, forgive me if I've told you this before. I have a 16' tall art structure made from plywood that I'd like to burn. one Idea to prevent scarring is to have a canvas tarp underneath to contain the embers from the wood via a long stick. The question is, what to have underneath, protecting the playa?...

Aurora Borealis

I thought this would be a cool idea to do inside of a dome, but it would need a good screen on the inside with smooth edges, I think.

what about one using a smoke machine and a projector for out on the playa?

so, a lot of cloud-mobiles, white and gold wings. I'm not sure how I feel about this theme. Of course there are no boundaries and limitations. I do, however see it as kind of...well, a lot of white and gold and not a whole lot of room to move around...maybe I could be eeyore and just whine about it ...

If I soak the wood in the copper chloride then let it dry do you think it would still have the effect.

The plan is for a burning tree, so kind of want the color in specific placts (along the branches/foliage)

maybe I could paint the particles onto the wood...?

Burning Tree

04 will be my second year, and I am essentially Solo, thinking about taking a couple of virgins. The idea is for a giant tree that can provide shade during the day for yoga classes/drum circles/whatever. At the end I would like to burn it and have it topple over and crash into the ground. The fact i...

I think having people bring their own cups is a great idea, takes a lot of pressure off of the staff? of course the building would have to seal up for dust storms and open to let the breeze through, maybe doors on either end I can volunteer both on and off playa for this. I have moderate carpentry s...

Installation idea

ok, so 2004 this will be my second year and my first installation or even piece of playa art at all. I'm open to all kinds of ideas and suggestions about this. I want it to be in the tradition of those models of dinosaaur skeletons that you can build out of wood. The idea is for it to be a bunch ply...
