Sorry to be the ass and devils advocate... how lit was your friend? If you light yourself up enough and use a bike headlight like suggested in the Survival Guide the chances of something like this lessen. mail can be delivered to the playa but there's no guarantee it will get delivered. Camp co-ordinates help, camp descriptions, playa names... pretty much anything that can help delivery people 'find' the intended person. Any mail sent should be sent with the hope it gets delivered to the right person...
