Stargeezer, You mentioned you had spreadsheets that help minimize waste. I've built a 15' 3V dome last year (which I believe wasted more than I should have) and would love to get ahold of a tool that helps with variable sizes. Would you be willing to share those spreadsheets? I'm sure a million e-pl...

On-playa E-playa Meet N Greet?

I'm sure it's happened or been planned before, but is there a place/time where us e-playans do an organized (and I mean that loosely) meet and greet during BM? I would love to meet some of the posters on here and it's nice to see the face behind the screen name. Maybe even wear lil name tags n stuff...

Maybe the smart question would be "what are you looking forward to seeing this year?" Perhaps more accurately, "who" am I looking forward to seeing this year: AntiM, Teo del Fuego, Ugly Dougly, chiefdanfox, thecryptofishist, mdmf007, intubator, Ron, thirt33n, MozyBonz, espressodude, ClarkCON, accod...

Hey Falk! Great PDF that you have there. I was wondering what weight of canvas you used? I'm looking at some canvas drop cloths that are 8oz and 12 oz. I'm leaning more towards the lighter weight but just wanted to check and see what the preferred type was. I think based on how many people design th...

So now I'm working on creating a custom fit cover for this thing and I've come up with the below diagram. I'm not going to do individual triangles because thats just way too many seams and it would be more likely to fail (or even get completed). I'm thinking strips of material made into 5 different ...

A "pop-up" dome... I wish! Granted this dome isn't gynormous like the 32 footers you see and although lots of space is nice, I figured I didn't need much to house just two people and our crap. I also wanted easy set up without having to resort to using scaffolding or lift trucks. Also, the larger th...

Aha! Dork makes an important point that I forgot to point out. I used 3/8 in bolts but a 3/8 drill bit didn't allow the bolt to slide into the hole without effort (if at all) so I used a metric drill bit out of an old index I had laying around to ream a few thousandths off to make for a better fit. ...

I've done tons of research on the types of covers and found that although parachutes make for "ok" shade covers, they are terrible for dome covers due to the oven effect of the material, and the fact that they catch the wind. I'm leaning towards fabricating a custom fit cover from billboard vinyl an...

For all the Dome Builders out there

So I have completed the frame of my 15ft diameter 3V Dome and wanted to share my experience with those who are considering building their own. First of all, the measurements at http://www.desertdomes.com are 100% accurate and you can count on the measurements to be exactly what you need. There is ce...

I've got rebar stakes already made for a GP tent I have. 18in rebar stakes with a hook on the end that will fit over the bottom struts. I have like a million of em. As far as decorations go, I have an apocalyptic type theme that will look much like a post-nuclear wasteland. I'm thinking rusty, splot...

Dome Frame Completed!!

HOORAY!! I finished my dome frame today and got it "erected" in my backyard. Its roughly 15ft dia and around 18ft high. Its sturdy as hell and I am sooooo happy that it all came together easily. Next step is the covering and I have a plan for that already. I'm so excited to see my home taking shape!...

My Current Playa Fantasy - Erect Nipples

Imagine yourself strolling down one of the BRC avenues, alcohol seeping from your pores, beading on your forehead, and causing you to shout obscenities at the Sun. Damn it! If only dancing till dawn excluded the dawn part, you'd still be groovin with that hottie down at the Deep End. Suddenly, a fri...

Alcoholic Shopping List

Ok, so I'm making my shopping list for alcohol and since its rather expensive, I'm buying it a bit at a time till we leave. What stuff goes over well on the playa concerning alcoholic drinks? I'm thinking fruity/frosty type drinks like margaritas and stuff would be great but hard to make considering...

When I looked at the connectors I wasn't impressed with them. The backside of the struts is concave which is then bolted to the 5 and 6 way connectors with hex key bolts. A Dome for Lazy Burners

So I was at Costco today and guess what I ran across? A 8-10ft kids play dome. My first thought, "OHHH That would be GREAT for Burning Man!" Thanks for the welcome everyone! I'm looking forward to August more and more. Intubater, I LOVE that idea for a theme camp. However, being my first burn I probably don't have the resources to bring it to life. Perhaps in 2009? Although on the other hand, the name might bring the frat-boy crowd. Dunn...
