Re: Burning Man Project wants more of your $$$
The title of this post is off the mark in suggesting that Burning Man Project is considering a "carbon tax." Burners Without Borders came up with this at their Fall Summit and from what I understand there were no BOrg officials in attendance. BWB can propose whatever they like, but they do so only a...

Re: Old Motorhome Issue - Any Idea What This Could Be?
Is it thermal? I.e. only after the rig gets to normal running temperature and is “hot” does a restart cause failure in the lights? I’m wondering if there is some kind of ignition relay that cuts the lights during starter cranking that gets stuck once warmed up. That would fit the rather strange sym...

Old Motorhome Issue - Any Idea What This Could Be?
I'm at a loss on this and so is my RV guy. I have a '71 Sportscoach. She's stored in Reno and only goes out once a year, just to the Burn and back, this will her 8th year. My RV Daddy runs her once a month, she's been running great for several years with no big issues. But, for the last two years al...

This is the "unofficial map" for theme camp placement. The creators aren't Borg affiliated, and the map is based on submissions. Useful for an idea of what's probably where.

Point taken. I’ll step aside. Thank you for handling my heavy-handed retort so gracefully. I had some "typer's remorse" after the fact, and was pretty sure I had some mollywop comin' my way. I appreciate the pass on that. I really did like a lot of what you and other posters brought up. As s...

Re: Suggestion for BRC Cultural Direction & ePlaya
I'm gonna circle back and restate the intention of my original post: 1) To propose that ePlaya add a forum under the Event section that could offer people that are looking to participate and those that are looking for participants a spot to connect. I made mention that it would give people some opti...

Suggestion for BRC Cultural Direction & ePlaya
After reading the Cultural Direction Setting Vision, I have a couple suggestions to share. First, here's the link: https://journal.burningman.org/culturalvision/ Assuming that increasing citizen participation and volunteerism would help steer cultural direction, I think we could do more to offer Bur...

Re: Placement 2019-2020
I think one of the fundamental challenges for the Placement crew is that camps routinely over-inflate their population on their application and are given way more real estate than they actually need. And....these camps always seem to be the ones that watch every boundary flag like hawks to make sure...

Re: The basic problem with modern BRC
Here's my big fucking problem with better cell service.....100% self-centered! I'm a Catholic High School Dean, and they've been gracious enough to give me 6 school days off in the first 2 weeks of the school year to participate in Burning Man. For all of these years there's been an understanding th...

What Would Larry Have Said?
This conundrum has been stuck in my craw since last Burn, and since today marks one year since we lost Larry, it's a good time to get thoughts on it. I'm not sure why the question of what Larry would have wanted on this issue has stuck with me, but I'm ready to hear what you have to offer. Last Burn...

Re: The basic problem with modern BRC
i think what we need is a great equalizer. it’s called dust. Yes! This has been my thought for several years. We need the playa to cull the herd. Because the "haves" have access to dust-proof sanctuaries, we're gonna need a few days of hellacious brown-outs combined with rain. Total vehicle ground ...

Re: Service Camps: Heroes or Plight of BRC?
I dig this question. My first thought is how valuable the service camps are for the unexpected realities of life in BRC. I serve as the placement lead for my village, which equates to being a "residential assistant" for folks during the week - meaning, when the shit hits their fan they come looking ...

I've been thinking a lot about Marian Goodell's Cultural Correcting post, mostly for how it applies to my Crew's ongoing work with new Lamplighter acculturation. I keep coming back to my own start with Burning Man. Back in that day (2008) ePlaya was the go-to source for folks looking to research all...

Re: Cultural Course Correcting post by Marian Goodell
I was really impressed by Marian's article, for its honesty and its clarity on what the Org identifies as the challenges facing our community and how they can help mitigate them. I think at this point we have a case of trying to get the toothpaste back in the tube, but I also don't think the Org sho...

Re: Feasibility of Window AC for RV?
You could take a window unit and build a box that fits over the roof hole and the unit hangs outside the board. Of course this is super inconvenient. You could also think outside the box and realize that for your beat up Burner van, why limit yourself to existing side panel windows? Cut a hole anyw...

Re: Feasibility of Window AC for RV?
Do you know where I would I look for a used roof AC unit? My rig is dry-docked in Reno in the off season with a guy who handles everything for me. He can do the AC upgrade for me, but I hate to ask him to search junk yards.

Feasibility of Window AC for RV?
Wondering if anyone has some thoughts on the feasibility of installing a mini window AC unit in my RV. She has a roof unit that doesn't work, but the roof units I've looked at are really expensive ($450-500). I only use my old girl for the Burn, so looking for the cheapest option. She's super tight ...

Re: Not Going to Burning Man at Burning Man
What I don't like it when I feel like I'm wasting time, and usually that occurs when I'm in a large group of people trying to go to see some specific thing at a set time. It just takes for-fucking-ever to get that blob of people to go. Then when we arrive -- usually late -- we end up mulling around...

Not Going to Burning Man at Burning Man
I'm looking for some input on my several-year trend of not going to Burning Man all that much when I'm at Burning Man. I developed some guilt after this year's Burn when I saw a bunch of photos of art that I didn't see in person. This happens every year, but maybe more so this year. I did get out ex...

Party/Bar Requirements for Legal Drinking Age
I'm trying to get the most current information to share with Villagers for establishing their legal drinking age at parties/bars/lounges. I recently posted our standard suggestion that they have a color photocopy of their ID taped onto their bar cup. I'm hearing back from some that their photocopy w...

Re: Outgoing Mail from BRC?
Black Rock Post Office is normally at about 5:45 on the Center Camp Circle. Last year they took postcards or envelopes to be mailed out but they've stopped delivering mail on playa. You have to have the correct postage on the mail going out and they do put a nice stamp on it.

Re: Deep Playa Potty Map?
Thank you for not pissing on the playa! Not sure if this option would be horrifying to you, but are you aware of Travel Johns? They have a plastic open mouth at the top attached to an 10" or so cylindrical slim bag with a non-toxic gelling agent in it. You pee in it and it immediately forms a gel......

Advice for art long-term playa-proofing?
Lamplighters are completing a community art piece this year that we'd like to be able to put up in our Lounge for years to come. I could use some advice for making it last for the long haul. The project involves about 75, 8 x 8 x 1/4 inch wooden tiles that have been artistically rendered by particip...

The holding tanks are broken. Something must have hit them. I looked into replacing them but I was told that the tanks have to be custom made and would be very expensive.

Re: Tips and Tricks for RV's at Burning Man
I made the leap 5 years ago to purchase an old rig strictly for Burning Man. I live in Illinois, Brenda (my '71 Sportscoach) is cared for in Reno year-round by a trusted Burner (my RV Daddy) who dry-docks RV's for Burners on his property just north of Reno. Although she was a money-suck in her early...
