Party/Bar Requirements for Legal Drinking Age

I'm trying to get the most current information to share with Villagers for establishing their legal drinking age at parties/bars/lounges. I recently posted our standard suggestion that they have a color photocopy of their ID taped onto their bar cup. I'm hearing back from some that their photocopy w...

Re: Outgoing Mail from BRC?

Black Rock Post Office is normally at about 5:45 on the Center Camp Circle. Last year they took postcards or envelopes to be mailed out but they've stopped delivering mail on playa. You have to have the correct postage on the mail going out and they do put a nice stamp on it.

Re: Deep Playa Potty Map?

Thank you for not pissing on the playa! Not sure if this option would be horrifying to you, but are you aware of Travel Johns? They have a plastic open mouth at the top attached to an 10" or so cylindrical slim bag with a non-toxic gelling agent in it. You pee in it and it immediately forms a gel......

Advice for art long-term playa-proofing?

Lamplighters are completing a community art piece this year that we'd like to be able to put up in our Lounge for years to come. I could use some advice for making it last for the long haul. The project involves about 75, 8 x 8 x 1/4 inch wooden tiles that have been artistically rendered by particip...

Re: "Burning Man's Culture is in Danger"

I agree with everyone who's said that the toothpaste is already out of the tube. My suggestion is rooted in what I can do, and that's to get more people into positive volunteer experiences on playa. Positive report that I can share from Lamplighters....2017 was one of our best years for volunteers i...

The holding tanks are broken. Something must have hit them. I looked into replacing them but I was told that the tanks have to be custom made and would be very expensive.

Re: Tips and Tricks for RV's at Burning Man

I made the leap 5 years ago to purchase an old rig strictly for Burning Man. I live in Illinois, Brenda (my '71 Sportscoach) is cared for in Reno year-round by a trusted Burner (my RV Daddy) who dry-docks RV's for Burners on his property just north of Reno. Although she was a money-suck in her early...

This was my first year bringing homemade treats and all 3 were great. I took 2 loaves of banana blueberry bread baked the week I left and frozen. They went into my cooler of frozen stuff and I busted them out the night before Monday and Tuesday mornings....they were so good and the early morning cre...

Just another addition to the Lamplighter info (I LOVE you Scout!).....Lamplighters host a Happy Hour Monday-Saturday in our awesome Lounge every afternoon between 3 and 5 pm (Burn Saturday is 2-4.) Re: Self-righteous, wealth-resenting burners running amok

This year on Friday on our way to the playa we stopped for gas in Wadsworth, and my 71' purple Sportscoach Motorhome ended up being parked in the middle of 10 ultra-luxury RV's also on their way to the playa. I asked one of the drivers for my payment for renting my RV for the camp. He said, "we'll p...

Re: Questions about transporting Beer Brats

Cooked down and caramelized as a cased meat topping is the goal! No crunch needed. I will also have my homemade bacon bourbon jam, homemade dill relish, and a selection of Raye's of Maine artisan mustards for condiments. I also lived in Maine for a stretch.

Questions about transporting Beer Brats

I host an event on Wednesday of the Burn that normally has a wiener roast. I've purchased hot dogs from Reno in the past, but this year I am hoping to impart my Illinois heritage into the food. I need to feed about 80 people. My hope is to transport a cooler of frozen 1/4 lb. beef Chicago dogs and b...

Ratty, A.1) Salami is always a wonderful gift. Cured meat has built-in defenses against bacteria. I've taken to providing summer sausage, easy-cheese (yes, from the aerosolized can,) and Ritz crackers as a happy hour boquita. Everybody LOVES it! No refrigeration needed! B.2) You offered me a necessa...

Re: Looking for feedback! BM School Art Project!

Thank you Nick! That's a huge good news that BRPO offers free postage stamps for postcards! I pay for the materials and shipping for our Burning Man art projects, so that is a BIG help! No worries on a separate mail box, I have no problem riding postcards up to the 9 or 3 plaza each day! Many thanks...

Re: is THIS a not - to - offensive gifting idea?

I think this is a great gifting idea, and I think you mentioned the idea of leaving some in Center Camp Café. I think that would be a stellar gift to many Burners. I go to Center Camp most every day in the mid-morning. I like to get a cup of coffee, people watch, relax and I always like something to...

Re: One Piece of Advice for a Birgin

I would plan for some sleep. Burning Man really is a marathon. Naps are great for a short-term boost but they don't compare to a full night's sleep. With so many plans and options buzzing, it's sometimes hard to unplug and take a night off. Normally Wednesday I eat a good dinner in camp, forgo the c...

Re: How Many Virgins Do Their Research???

I feel bad for any Burgin that doesn't do the research....that research builds the anticipation and fills the time of a long year of waiting. To be honest, I miss those detailed check lists and meticulous planning. I became a long-distance traveler/RV owner a couple years ago. Now all my necessities...

Re: Low Income Ticket Sale Timeline

Not sure why things got so tense. My question centered on the timeline of the process, not the worthiness of the low-income ticket program. Last year the applications for low-income closed on April 15th. I simply didn't understand why that program had such a larger time window. But I understand that...

Re: Low Income Ticket Sale Timeline

I swear, I am not beating this point to death....But hear me out. It seems like from what I've read that the BMorg sets a certain ticket allotment for low-income tickets. If that ticket allotment is not met in the initial wave of low-income applicants, there is a push from BMorg for additional appli...

Nope, I need to redirect this conversation. Last year BMorg posted that low-income tickets were still available long after the Main Sale was closed. Re: Vehicle Passes and Burning Man Traffic Issues

I want to first correct something I read in this thread....the service camps (Lamplighters, Center Camp, Artica, etc.) are not included in the direct sale. Someone else mentioned it, but I'll agree that there is a worry that VP's will be scooped up by people who don't need them. A $40 VP doesn't hol...
