I don't understand why we wouldn't want to embrace a more universal health care system. You know people in other countries pay more taxes because they receive more services from their governments... and their governments actually use their money for things other than the war machine. America is a gr...

Re: TRAVEL STRATEGIES TO AND FROM THE PLAYA!
how is it that with such a huge following, there are no shuttles organized to drive people to the playa from the airport? Actually there is. It's the Biobus. It will take you from the airport to Whole Foods to get supplies and then onto the playa. It leaves at different times, you just need to sign...

you can make your own candy cane shaped rebar which is what we use and then no need for tennis balls on the tops. http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?p=331190

Personally I would advise against renting a U-Haul. What people are saying about faulty equipment is pretty true. I worked for them doing emergency roadside assistance. I realize that since I did this I heard the worst of it, but most of the places don't check the equipment thoroughly before it goes...

I have those long rectangular glasses and it was pretty hard for me to actually find a pair that fit over them last year. Don't be fooled by online ads that say that work over all glasses, because we bought a pair that didn't work at all and had to send them back. Finally I settled on these: http://...

Central Cost Burners
Hey there, I'm Erin and my boy and I are moving to Santa Maria here in a couple of weeks. Just wondering if there was anyone else in the area that we might be able to connect with... or know of any kind of music scene around the area. I know the area is really small and it would be great to meet som...

I agree. Perhaps people would be less likely to throw them on the ground if they were reusable: http://www.dreamrave.com/digital-glow-sticks-c-37.html I've had the battery powered ones before and I kept a closer eye on them than with the regular sticks. They last for quite a while and I would say fo...

Re: Keep it simple
"I want to make this as painless as possible." Then just bring canned, dried, non-refrigerated foods. It's only a week, you'll survive just fine, and you will most likely eat a lot less than you'd think. Plus, people all around you will be giving away their fresh food before (well hopefully before)...

We have a truck that we take up, but some friends always rent a trailer (since you said you don't have one renting might be the best way to go. Very few prepared foods are actually considered food safe after a week in the fridge. Keep most foods for 5 days or less, three is preferable or just use the freezer. Any cites on that? I've heard the same info but also heard that as long as the food is properly prepared and the fridge is kept at t...

The tips about gloves are really good, but I would also recommend wearing them at night when it's cold (regardless if you're doing any set up or tear down) if you have sensitive skin. I didn't last year and between the cold and playa dust my hands were cracked and bleeding. Also spray on sunscreen w...

LOL, indeed, those goggles on my head are a costume accessory only. They suck asswater. The website says that thing makes 69dB... that's LOUD! It's a two-stroke motor. Those aren't just loud, they make that higher-pitched irritating noise like a dirt bike. I've tried those things - for the noise it makes I think you're better off checking Craigslist for a deal on a regular, four-strok...

There is a Chinese knock-off, the Kipor. It's similar and supposedly pretty quiet. In my experience with different small-engine things, the Chinese cheapies tend to be lower quality, not as long lasting, and IMPOSSIBLE to get parts for. But there are people on here who have bought the Kipor and lik...
