Re: The aftermath..

You know, I'm actually kind of glad Out of Africa didn't pan out this year, because the weather/dust storms would have obliterated everything I would have brought or built. And why should your camp torment be different than everyone elses? The idea I had required a lot of hand props and big, open t...

Tea!

Hey! Home again.. really enjoyed meeting all of you at Bomb Bay [and the service was excellent, thanks to your child labor..] I love that we accidentally ended up camping down the road from you-- nice to be in the neighborhood! I felt like I already had friends at Burning Man, even though I'd never ...

The aftermath..

Just got home.. I'm filthy, and my sunburn is already peeling. Lovely. You know, I'm actually kind of glad Out of Africa didn't pan out this year, because the weather/dust storms would have obliterated everything I would have brought or built. I wanted to use popup tents draped with muslin and netti...

I'm off!

My friend's coming in about an hour, and we're off! Driving today [Sunday], staying over in Reno tonight, driving to playa Monday morning. Really bummed I couldn't pull this off this year.. Sucks. But I'm at least throwing a corset in my bag-- have to represent, somehow. I'll leave word at the Bomb ...

I'm off!

Hey! My friend is picking me up in an hour, and off we go! We're staying in Reno Sunday night, driving to the playa Monday morning.. Reading these posts is inspiring me to at least throw a corset in my bag amidst the shorts and t-shirts. I'd given up on costumes, but I feel like I should do SOMETHIN...

Not happening until next year..

So.. yeah. Out of Africa won't happen this year. Too many crises. Which fucking sucks. But I decided to go after all, just.. as myself. Which is lame. But how it goes this time around. Don't know where we'll be staking our claim, probably just show up and pick something [a friend decided to come wit...

Onwards.. through the trenches..

Yeah, I fell off the map for a while there. Haven't looked at this board in a couple of months. It's gotten over 1800 views, which is pretty amazing! I have to admit, I'm tired, and seriously thought about throwing in the towel on this whole affair the other day. I have had all kinds of life/work dr...

Flyers, etc

!!! Great idea. We'll have a sign up at our gate with a guestbook, and I heard there's some sort of kiosk to post flyers on? Was planning on doing that, but would really love any help from Bomb Bay! Thanks, guys.

Huh?

I must be the only one who thinks this is incredibly lame. Apparently you can't afford a prostitute/maid and don't feel like the modicum of effort that is required to chat up some drunken woman at the event. It's the soliciting through an ad that offends me, not hooking up for a week. Yeah, someone ...

Re: Skirt Lifters!

Hello! The real DB here, looking forward to meeting you on the playa. We'll have croquet as well, perhaps a round robin tournament is in order! There is an entire thread about skirt lifters over on the Steampunk Forum that you may find usefull for chain avoidance. http://www.brassgoggles.co....

A nicely turned ankle...

Hey! Would love more participants! We'll have a mini-bar of sorts and plan to have lots of lazy cocktail/tea parties. I'm going to try to dress up as much as possible, but I'll see how I fare in the heat with a corset on. And I'm obsessed with costume, so please bring items by to share, even if you ...

Thanks!

Thanks! And for anyone in the Los Angeles area, there is a Steampunk Ball a week from tomorrow [Sunday], June 15-- held by the Malediction Society [they have a myspace page]. Not affiliated with them-- we're going and we'd love to see other Burning Man people there. Drop me a note if you are-- we'll...

Bustle vs. Bike

I'd love a rickshaw, but it's so hard to find orphaned street urchins on the playa. They are so thin and feeble these days.. I'm mainly afraid of skirt trains ending up caught in bike gears. That would be bad. Anyone know of some kind of additional chain guard or whatever that would help? I can't be...

Out of Africa, 1875-1907 [Victorian theme camp-unregistered]

Hey! My friend and I are doing a Victorian-themed camp at Burning Man this year-- Out of Africa, 1875-1907-- a sort of lion safari thing focusing on the styles of those years. We'll have multiple tents, flags flying, furniture, steamer trunks, mosquito netting, bustles, croquet, tea trays and even a...

Love your idea! Come see us-- Victorian-style camp

Hey! Though we are not registering as an official theme camp, my friend and I [big steampunk fans] are doing a sort of Victorian lion safari thing titled Out of Africa, 1875-1907. Numerous tents, Union Jack flags flying, furniture, mosquito netting, bustles, bourbon and croquet-- the whole bit! Lean...
