Re: Fabric for vehicle skin?

It might, but crossing the weave enough to block the view might also block the wind. I'm gonna have to go with Trilobyte's suggestion and get me some samples for testing. And you're right - doubling it is spendy, so I hope to avoid that. Maybe if I just paint the entire vehicle playa-colored on the ...

As luck would have it, one of our new campmates is a Brewery denizen (Two-Bit Circus) and I'm grabbing lunch with him tomorrow. ;) Will def check out the Rose Brand storefront - thanks!

Re: Fabric for vehicle skin?

@SimonofthePlaya and @Trilobyte - Thanks very much, folks. I never considered scrim to be affordable enough, but I guess I should get a quote just for comparison's sake, since it pretty much would make the perfect material. Also wondering if anyone here has experience with the L.A. garment district'...

Fabric for vehicle skin?

Hey, friends. I'm looking for some advice on a materials choice. For 2014, we're transforming XyloVan into "The Light Fandango" - sort of a roving ballroom ceiling, complete with chandeliers and billowy, back-lit fabric, seen in the sketch below. (Full DMV app with more sketches here: http://www.xyl...

Thanks, man.

Now kicking myself for not having included the Janus shots in the original topic (too late to edit) but at least they're here now so everybody can see what we have in store.

Oh, we already learned that one the hard way: :P (http://www.xylovan.com/2010/07/whiskey-tango-foxtrot-xylovan-denied-a-burning-man-mutant-vehicle-invitation/) After that happened in 2010 (the photos above are from that year), we got full day/night DMV permits in 2011 for the"Janus" mutation shown i...

XYLOVAN's musical mutant vehicle fundraiser

XyloVan, the amazing musical mutant vehicle my family built together (http://xylovan.com), is returning to the playa this summer WITH YOUR HELP. We've brought XyloVan to Black Rock City three years running (2010 to Kidsville, 2011 as "Janus" with a full DMV permit and 2012 to Swing City (https://www...

Eh, sorry to hear that. People get busy, dusty, addled, careless, whatever. Maybe a bad night, maybe they're jerks. But it's still a monster. I doubt this'll bring 'em out of the woodwork, but XyloVan just awarded Fusion our little-known, totally worthless but nonetheless heartfelt and deserved Muta...

Please help me identify this MV

So - It's a crying shame that the DMV doesn't publish its database of photos of approved mutant vehicles. Even better would be a full blog letting the builders share their post-mortem boasts and horror stories, from which we all could learn. As a builder, I hope someday (soon) someone will see fit t...
