Not useful on the playa but cool

I saw this the other week. Would like to have it on suburban roads.
http://www.lightlanebike.com/

And I no longer can say that 200 lumens is bright.
http://www.rei.com/product/776622
I think the company makes a 1000 lumen version, but the link above already exceed what I paid for my bike itself.

alleged dangers of driving regular cars onto playa

Do you know people who have had trouble with their regular cars on the playa? I don't remember any ground clearance issues last year; the paths were all very smooth. We were a little concerned about duct taping over the air intakes to keep playa dust out, but my friend said there was no evidence of ...

back seat removal

Even if the seats fold flat (this is a '99 model that we have), if they are removed, it's more storage space in the car.
I was mostly thinking of the seat cushion/bottom because that was easy to remove on one of my cars. It's probably not easy to remove the seatbacks themselves.

don't want to rent

I thought renting cars was really expensive for the week and to coin a phrase, fraught with peril. Don't you have to spend a lot of money afterward getting it detailed and cleaned out and still risk capricious fines? Otherwise, yeah, I'm flying in from Philly so a car rental might have worked...

Bike rack permanent

The roof mounted bike rack is permanently there so we can't use a rooftop container instead and put two bikes on the truck. I'm surprised that the rack would only hold one bike; thought they were all for two, but I've never bought one before. We're part of a theme camp so alone, we should be pretty ...

better bike rack

Hmm, good idea. I'll check on that. I think the bike rack that's on the roof might be a permanent mount, but it's worth asking.

(The car is in Santa Cruz and I am in Philly, so the logistics are a bit strained. I'm also researching on mazdaforums what would be involved in removing the back seat.)

Regular car feasible for two people?

I'm riding into BM with a friend and we're in a 1999 Mazda 626, which appears to be a regular size car. Not small (that would be the 3-series) not an SUV or a taxi-sized car. Someone more experienced than me thinks we're not going to have enough space. Our idea is to have one bike on the roof and th...

LEDs on bike wheels

This could be good for the sides. http://www.geekologie.com/2009/06/pimp_out_your_bike_wheels_with.php It's a lot more sophisticated than I would have assumed. hit cooler

Yeah, primarily the lights are for you to be seen, but that secondary purpose of seeing where you're going is still important, imho. You could hit anything out there on the playa in the middle of the night, including a passed-out, uh whatever that word is for people aren't lit up.

Pep Boys carport info

OK, I called in, using 19th century technology, and got the details. They sell two different models. One has six legs and no sides. $99 The other has eight legs and sides.
The primary purpose of personal bike lighting is "to be seen by others" as you're cruising at night. The majority of bike lights are adequate for that. Bike light recommendations

I think I'm going to bring an unremarkable LED bike light to Burning Man. But maybe it's too bright? If the light is ...

But the carports don't normally have walls, right? We'd want those. I guess you could add them easily enough, have to consult an architect on that one.

Buying a theme camp tent

I'm charged with picking out a tent for a theme camp. I've got some likely candidates for it, but thought I should check with the crowd. If you recommend a specific item, that's great. We're looking for about 600 sq. ft. (55.7 m2). I was wondering about vinyl vs. canvas. I like the organic associati...

Hiking before BM

Hi, a friend and I wanted to go for an overnight backpacking hike before Burning Man. Can anyone recommend a hike/destination between San Jose/Santa Cruz and Gerlach? We went to Yosemite last year (not related to BM) and that seems too far out of the way to get up to Gerlach. I saw El Dorado Nationa...
