Re: shade type and size

If you park your vehicles the correct direction, you can create enough shade for 8 or 10 small tents just using astronomy, angle of the sun, and some simple trigonometry. No shade cloth or rigging required. Our good buddy Canoe did all kinds of cool models to inspire https://eplaya.burningman.org/vi...

Re: Seeking Engineer to join our 2020 Art project

Hey, I used the snark font ;) I could have done the civil, structural, or truss engineer and the usual request for minimal details like location, type of materials used (lumber, steel, etc.), maybe an idea of scale and size ... You know, the usual bits left off. The pickle will be, as you mention, t...

Do you need an engineer to drive a locomotive? Maybe an engineer to design a printed circuit board? I’m betting you need an engineer to design an earthen dam to make a lake on the Playa? Perhaps you need software for your lighting and visuals? No, wait, you need a power engineer for your distributi...

True Story: From 2001 - 2003 I camped with three $40 cheap-ass Coleman 2-pole tents. One was a bedroom. One for storage. One as a spare and to hold the dirty laundry. Each tent was like 4 pounds and packed tight n small. It fucking worked like a charm. All these fancy shelters remind me of people bu...

We should totally do a central power grid run exclusively on steam engines, fueled by the millions of dead drought and bark beetle trees from California. Yeah, I didn’t bother to read that post. Just can’t see when it’s a giant run-on sentence and no paragraph breaks.

I can see how a 1-2 KW array can put a dent in it. Especially in a place like California and the insane rate gouging.

200W is peanuts.

Has anyone gone ahead and done a proper thermal chimney or reverse stack yet? If you have a hexayurt, why don’t you be the mad scientist? Wait for a nice sunny warm/hot day. Install and flash a proper 4” vent in the apex of the yurt. Stick 8’ of black single-wall stove pipe on the vent. Seal the yu...

Totally different animal over there.

Bacon is fully smoked and shelf stable.

You don’t cook it further unless you want to.

I like bacon both ways; US crispy pan-fried or Iron Curtain cold cut lumps on stale bread.

Both build character ;)

The majority of polluting can be attributed to countries, large corporations and mother nature. An individual's recycling contribution is a feel-good but useless contribution.
