Re: Is it over?

Have you ever considered that the bitching old fart on FB may actually be right? The bitching old fart on FB said he was now 42. I didn't say he was wrong. I didn't say he was right. I offer no opinion on that at all. I wasn't there 18 years ago. I wasn't there 10 years ago. So, I'll take your word...

Re: Is it over?

There was a guy on FB bitching about BMORG and how they've ruined Burning Man. He said he hadn't been back to the Playa since 2002. Gloating about the current situation he echoed the common opinion that the fact a couple thousand showed up on the Playa this year without the Org's involvement was pr...

Re: Is it over?

https://donate.burningman.org/big-picture/ We need to raise $12 million to get us through the first quarter of 2021. So they went from $2M per month, cut 51% of the budget, and ended up at $3M per month?! I guess it’s inflation ... What a fucking bunch of scam artists. I’m glad it’s over and can now...

Re: Is it over?

It’s done. The org pissed the BLM off too many times. Marion and the rest mis managed funds enough to ensure it’s done. And that’s ok. Me n Captain went this last week and it was 1991 all over again. No 700,000 watt sound camps, no 7 figure art car monstrosities, no plug n plays. It. Was. Awesome. ...

Re: Burning Man vs local politics

You got a Cliff Notes summary? The first couple minutes was a bit flat on content and heavy on some kind of burny yoga circle with healing crystals vibe. Cliff Notes - the Burning Man office staff has nothing to do. So someone came up with a brain fart in a staff meeting: politics something somethi...

I wonder how long the burner culture and social circles will last, after Burning Man doesn’t exist. I ain’t been to the Playa in 10 years and my culture is strong! Come closer and smell all that culture! Haven’t washed my truck since 2010 and it still got that Playa-AC! Besides, I’m the same FKO I ...

Re: Is it over?

I think the Org will go bankrupt, and no matter how out of touch with normal reality I think they all are, without the Org handling all the red tape and hassles involved with having such a large scale event, it just can’t happen. That’s why I think it’s done. I suppose eplaya will disappear too. I ...

Re: American breakdown front line reports from cities

Love this topic. Thank you FKOs for the kick in the pants. Let me add that outside of cities the traction for militant ideology is even more pronounced. And if you take the time to understand the why and how folks think and feel this way, it is entirely reasonable. The double-edged sword of freedoms...

Re: California Fires: Camp, Lost, Eden, Mountaineer, Woolsey, etc.

It’s accurate. There are US based outlets that covered the same story. I’m bummed Geisha Williams didn’t have to stand before the Judge and say “guilty” 85 times. She was the CEO at the time of the fire. And poor Bill Johnson I’m sure is weeping through his $3M signing bonus and $2.5M base salary......

I live in the countryside of Northern California, ~ 3 hours east of San Francisco... ... and nothing major has changed. Bars were closed, but I don’t go to them. Re: Don't build your for profit business on Burning Man

LOL, of all things BORG to get butt-hurt over, this ain’t even on the list. BORG going non-profit was the right thing on many levels. The big one on nonprofits is no ownership and no shares to trade. It is strictly accountable to its mission, not shareholders. Anyone that can run a business that gre...

Simon Dahling, “Fuck It” was so 2016. We are now in the “Fuck You” phase ... In a couple-three weeks we will be in the “We Are Fucked” moment. At some point the collective animal of America will realize that it takes $10K a pop to proper bury each dead. Only then will the realization be “I’m Fucked”!

Re: The Future of Burning Man

To me, burning Man has always been the place where I could leave my technology packed away and connect to people face to face in the most inhospitable place I've ever been. Spending the week living completely out of my (former) comfort zone and covered in a haze of gray dust seems to be an attracti...

Lucha Libre is loads of fun. LA - if you can imagine it, you can find it, but it’s gonna take a massive effort and you gonna drive 4 hours to get there. It is vast! It takes ages to take it all in and find that gem you’re looking for. Which is why I gravitate more to NorCal and cities like San Franc...

Re: Burningman community in LA

They are all over but Santa Monica is a bit pricey... ... look at the artist districts, off downtown, past skid row, down in the semi-industrial ghettos ... Look at the artwalk events they used to throw before The Rona. Those will give you a general idea on where the concentration of community be at...

Re: The Future of Burning Man

I hope the BORG leadership is getting good advice and can see that gatherings of 80K people is years (yes, plural) in the future. They need to strip the org down to the bone and just focus on the charity side of the business for a couple-few years and survive for After Rona epoch. Either this bug ge...

Re: Anticipating a $10 Million Shortfall Burning Man Asks Ticket Holders and Participants To Donate

Seems to me that the that the root of the problem is that the Org is spending the proceeds from one year on everything but the event for the next year. While I won't argue the merit of "all the great things" that they are doing I will say that not having a Plan "B" is pretty contrary to everything ...

With tickets being as hard as they are to get, I would think people would buy tickets for 2021 if they went on sale right now. Hahahaha! That would be Fyre-Festival level, going to jail type fraud. Tell me how the BORG could reasonable project any certainty about 2021. Token, if 2021 didn't happen,...
