Re: California Fires: Camp, Lost, Eden, Mountaineer, Woolsey, etc.

To be fair to PG&E, up here in “The State of Jefferson” country ... Darwinism is alive, well and welcome by the masses. So many private acres where local residents shoot first and ask later. So the contractors hired by PG&E ... that hired subcontractors from who knows where ... they have a hard time...

For those not from NorCAL, yes PG&E, our for profit corporation that is the main power and gas utility ... ... they have been found culpable in most of the NorCAL fires. The liability is so bad that the state had to intervene and approve legislation to protect PG&E from insolvency. They lost lawsuit...

Re: Reasonable Honoraria Funding Request Vs. Total Budget

Best place for information is the BORG. https://burningman.org/culture/burning-man-arts/grants/brc-honoraria/ Our annual budget for art on playa is $1.3 million. We typically fund approximately 60 to 70 honoraria art projects. Grants over $20,000 are rare. Due to the number of proposals we receive w...

The miracle patches in large fires - when they burn big and hot - oxygen depletion can do strange things.

Winds will also create eddies and vortices where all O2 gets depleted.

That particular hut was modified and enforced via extra vertical compression and triangulation with the posts running down the center.

My big gripe was DGS and “theme camps” being the instrument of the Devil. Everyone wants a placed camp so they can get tickets and early passes. I pushed hard on cutting theme camps to Esplanade and A/B and going back to non-placed camps. And villages, outside Kidsville, AEG and Hushville - fuck ‘em...

Re: Climbable Structures

OP is super vague. Could be art, could be a camp thing, who knows. Is it wood, metal, plastic ... Does it need to be anchored? Is there a wind profile/loading concern? Artery may or may not be the relevant entity. If it’s a camp only thing, may be a fuck-all and just build it. Seen plenty 2-3 story ...

The state doesn’t do any inspections or review of structurals out there. Just use sound construction practices, do your calculations, be ready to defend the design. It’s a hippie-fest. Nothing more.
