Re: Towing with a UHaul moving truck or van?

Richard, you need to reset and break this situation down to the basics, then build up from there. First and foremost, no one in your group has tickets yet and there is no guarantee any single person will get them. Second, plan on half your group flaking between now and August. Your camper - is it a ...

Re: Towing with a UHaul moving truck or van?

I’m pretty sure U-Haul only lets you tow their dollies and car carriers with the box trucks. They are in general the worst of the worst. The pickups they rent can tow boats and campers. Detail is in the contract. Enterprise and Penske business divisions do rent full size trucks equipped for towing a...

Re: Gerlach Water fillup, lines?

Remember to taste the water before you fill up. We had a big jug of not-so-great tasting water that someone filled up near the playa. So what you’re sayin’ is you need a test bunny in your midst, someone who hydrated well on the way in, is not super thirsty, not totally hydrated, more like day-old ...

Re: 36 volt vs 48 volt driving

All things being equal, meaning availability of motors, controllers, batteries, etc. going 48V saves a bunch on copper costs to run all that torque. You should look at locked-rotor current on 36 vs 48 V motors, cuz that is going to drive your power cable thickness from battery —> controller —> motor...

Even if you select 1” emt, which is fine for 10’ lengths, 60’ x 100’ grid is ~ 200 sticks of 10’ conduit. It's also about 2100 pounds of metal for the conduit. Then you add in all the fittings, rebar, and tarps. It's a heavy duty trailer load or half of a large rental van all by itself. Yeah, That ...

I don’t follow your math too well. 24 sounds low, maybe 36? Forget about 20’. Sag city and will buckle. Even if you select 1” emt, which is fine for 10’ lengths, 60’ x 100’ grid is ~ 200 sticks of 10’ conduit. Then you have ~ 80 fittings. Your looking at ~ $3K just for the metal at today’s prices. S...

Re: California Fires: Camp, Lost, Eden, Mountaineer, Woolsey, etc.

It’s crazy that PGE got tagged criminally for the gas explosion but not for the dozens of fires it is found “negligent” in causing. It eerily suggests that Lady Justice isn’t as blind as she is supposed to be, with urban events resulting in criminal convictions and much larger and more costly events...

Sadly, radar shows all the rain going to Chico and hit and miss for all other areas.

It’s conspiracy theory crazy how the rain bands are flowing.

I wouldn’t mind some more further down south where I’m at.

Roofline sprinklers are not uncommon out in the less urban settings. Same with lightning rods. Hard to asses things unless you are there to take in the whole scene instead of a few isolated photos someone decided are notable. Btw, trees can smolder on the inside for years after the fire is out. Lots...

The miracle patches in large fires - when they burn big and hot - oxygen depletion can do strange things.

Winds will also create eddies and vortices where all O2 gets depleted.
