Re: No-Dig Ground Screw?

I’m so skeptical of anything that sounds so slick and easy ... Pretty sure it would work great in the middle of a golf course putting green, but on a hard-packed, sun baked clay oven playa? The clay I have on the ranch would mangle that up in a heartbeat. Heck, it mangles and eats u-joints on my 9” ...

Token, what a silly thing to say. Try meeting with opposition without any statistics. When you go to court the party with the most paper wins. Join us for a day in the Census lab. We'll tell you what the numbers do for YOU. And you'll have fun. Oh, cmmon, you know I love you too, dearly. Your a Pil...

SSE, I love you dearly but you have been drinking from the census kool-aid new maths too much lately. Here is the old maths: 10% Do and make all that “Holy fucking shit” grandeur of the Playa. The real Villains, FKOs, and weirdos. 20% volounteer over their tenure (I.e. not every year but still do it...

Re: Advice for building things that shall be burnt

Ideas: Old shipping pallets - European shipping palets are AWESOME! Mostly oak, they burn good and long. I find them in the US every now and then and buy them up. Much nicer than our cedar pallets and they can’t be used here because of the Metric vs SEA conversion. Built many-a-floor with them. Disc...

Re: Advice for building things that shall be burnt

I’m not sure how lumber is treated in Europe but in the US you can get different grade of lumber that do NOT have fire retardant impregnated in it. Generally we call that green fir, short for Douglas Fir - a common pine type of lumber. Usually heavy when bought, not dried, and warps like crazy over ...

Other than gassing up every chance you get, it’s a road just like any other.

I’ve enjoyed my jaunts up and down spooky roads to BM over the years. Just needs common sense, preparation, and a sense of adventure.

Having an RV is bonus! You can pee anytime, anywhere.

So pull up yer britches and go.

I’m confused now ...

Is this for inter-species exotica, horned, hoofed and all, or just a play-dough thing?

I mean, it’s OK if it’s just clay and rubber bands but is something with real goats and horns a possibility?

Volunteering on the Playa is like paying for a fabulous vacation way more than you can afford, then working instead of having that vacation. Lots of folks disagree with my virewpoint, but the BORG has shown decade after decade a resigned indifference to the people that make the magic happen. That’s ...

Just now, not a minute ago, I found a bottle of super fine vino in my travel trailer: Two Buck Chuck, circa 2004. Been to the Playa minimum guaranteed 5 years. Lovingly forgotten and stored horizontal in Santa Clarita CA for seven long years ( Talk about wine abuse ) in the sweltering SoCal heat. Tr...

I met Larry long time back, cut some lumber, swung some hammers with him on the cube club. Had a chance to be there in the moment, where he wasn’t the face (or hat) of BM, but just another guy with a skill-saw and hammer in his hand. Get well ol’ man. Keep the jazz playing. https://bm-content-assets...

Hmm ... two poles in an X configuration are not very strong in any direction of force. Probably the poorest choice as 3 of the 4 triangle it forms are without a hypotenuse. If two poles is a fixed requirement, better to set them in a stretched out V shape. \ / Have them at 45 degrees to vertical, sp...

I’m in the “I couldn’t give a fuck” camp. Great thing about the Playa, you can pick up your ass and leave a conversation anytime you please. Both can work. Each have pro-con. Two pole limits you to A-frame (Viking Tent) type of design. Tensile structures are best done with woven shade cloth. Tensegrity structures (taught rope and poles in push-pull arrangement) can work well with either. Both require good know-how with ropes and knots. S...

Ice is sold on the Playa so maybe pre-freez an old 2 liter soda bottle filed with water and use that in an ice chest for the drive in then add ice when you get there.

I’m curious how one cracks a cooler.

I carried 60 pounds of stakes, rebar, spikes of all kinds in a 20 year old retired Coleman cooler for 10 years of BM.

Tossed the cooler off the truck, banged, used as a chair ...

I mean totally abused the thing.

Never a crack/dent on it.

Don't think you will find anything like that.

Your best bet is to buy the cheapest bare essentials at Walmart in the camping section and junk it after.

What kind of cooking are you looking to do? Basic boiling of water to warm things up or gourmet kitchen?

Re: Burning LEDs

When deciding, you gotta consider the type of LED. The new SMD types, when naked, i.e. without waterproofing or lenses, they are a relatively small footprint. But even that adds up if you have hundreds of them. 3528 and 5050 are common sizes (millimeters height-width) The 5050 are much brighter so y...
