Sorry, I didn't mean to stir up any bad feelings/memories. I have nothing but respect for those who lost their lives, or anything else at BM...I was just curious.

Well, thanks for the info, and suggestions. As far as the death toll goes, I'm shocked at how low it is, considering how large that city is, and how much drugs seem to be circulated (whether people want them or not). I saw the B.E.D. site, and I think it's real cool what they are about. I'm not conc...

Statistics...?

I was curious if anyone knew random stats about BM, like the amount of rapes, deaths, thefts, arrests, O.D.'s and the like... and no, I'm not being a Johnny Raincloud and expecting bad things. I've just seen enough mentions of those types of things happening there via eplaya, and was curious if anyo...

You could maybe try hand-washing, and dry-lining them the first time around, and then machine washing them to possibly cut down on debris and the like.

Don't worry. Porn is a timeless classic, it will be around no matter how hard big bad Walmart tries to destroy it.

Toolmaker - I was kind of looking into joining the Carrot Liberation Front. I'm all about helping the underdog. Now, I just need to find some orange and green stuff. It's a good thing I called a halt on the tubing, I have a feeling some lawsuits would have ensued otherwise ;). Phil - I'm not sure if...

I actually spent a good portion of today thinking about 'shirtcocking'...mostly because I had no idea what it was. So I pretty much just sat there coming up with different scenarios that might constitute as 'shirtcocking', and finally it dawned on me! I think. God, I hope I'm not wrong. If so, I nee...

Fire_Moose - Yeah, I'm doing some serious cutbacks and budgeting just to make '09 BM happen. Besides, I live in a high-elevation desert. During the summer...hell, even right now, it's hot as sin, and I generally avoid wearing a lot of clothing, and costumes seem to involve putting more stuff on. Tho...

I suppose I'm going to have to find a way to piss on someones leg via the internet. I'm pretty crafty. It's comforting to know I don't have to sacrifice a piece of myself, or even my own comfort to fit in in a place where everyone is supposed to fit in. There just seemed to be so much emphasis on co...

A little off the main subject...but are in-tent thefts common? As in, if I were to leave my tent for the day/night to go exploring, would I have to worry about someone pillaging my belongings snugly tucked away in there, and if so, is there a way to lock a tent, (haha)? I'll be camping alone, so I c...

Costumes and Participation...

I've been doing a lot of reading on these forums trying to gets all my beans in one bag as far as understanding what it is I need, or do not need to have/do/be prepared for, and one line that keeps getting blurred for me is costumes. I'm all for outrageous costumes. The visual art of it alone is sta...

swampdog - Yeah, I've pretty much decided that the booty crack of dawn on the first day is the time for me to arrive. theCryptofishist - The foam stuff seems like it'd be good to use after a baby wipe-down to catch stuff the wipes may have missed. Or maybe vice versa. I have a little plan with my hair, I figured I'd bring a couple 10 gallon buckets (with secure lids) for my grey water, and I could use a couple of (...

Oldguy - That is a great idea. Thank you for your suggestions. I most likely won't be able to show up too early, I'm having to take two weeks off of work (a week just to drive there and back), and any longer than that, and I put my job in jeopardy. As much as I love the idea of BM, and helping out, ...

Bathing on the Playa?!

Seeing as how '09 will be my first BM trip, I'm trying to avoid complicated structural shenanigans until at least my second year, so I'm curious...just how clean do you get/feel by just using baby wipes, or maybe a small sponge bath? Assuming baby wipes/sponge baths are shit, do you have any suggest...

Fire_Moose - Yeah, I set up a budget to buy stuff. Thanks a heap, Phil. The more I've read, and looked up, I think the canvas tent would be a good idea, and having another tent as a backup. I'm not afraid of it getting hot (even with a shade that I intend to bring). I live in the high desert, and on the mesa to boot, so the dirt/dust/sand + extreme ...

Ah, that does make sense.

Thanks anyway (about the camping stuff).

I've been checking out REI and the like, but the prices are pretty steep, and most of the decent tents I've found are like 40% mesh, and I'm trying to avoid that if I can.

When is the best time to show up for BM?

'09 will be my first year, and I was wondering what the best day/time is to show up to get a decent camping spot (not way out on the corner of BM universe), and to avoid mass traffic chaos (if possible?!). Also! Can you recommend a decent store/website that sells reasonably priced (good quality) cam...
