Re: Virgin Burner Couple Looking for an RV to share

So true--Motzy's trailer only cost him $2,000 used. It had ants, but the playa killed them. He's used it for 5-6 years now. If I felt comfortable pulling a trailer behind my truck, I'd go that route in a heartbeat. I'd probably have to store it professionally during the year though.

Re: Virgin Burner Couple Looking for an RV to share

The lovely thing about a cargo van (besides the fact that you can strap bikes to the interior walls, and it can literally hold everything that 2 people should need) is that you can literally hose out the back of it at a car wash. Bring some shammies and a spray bottle of vinegar for the other dusty ...

Re: 2019 One Item A Day For Burning Man

Great to see you too, Ratty! :D Yeah, I suppose the new place is technically more secure. If someone buzzes in using their own code and then messes with my unit instead, a silent alarm allegedly goes off (I don't know if I buy that). What's clear is that they do have cameras everywhere. Haven't fill...

Re: Looking for my tribe

I'm sorry to hear it, but don't give up yet. Keep tied in to your local meetups, and be sure tell your friends/family/acquaintances you're looking. (Burners love to sell to acquaintances or friends rather than strangers--it's safer and more friendly.) Get your time off, and keep your shopping and pa...

Re: My fear of past discretions affecting 2019 experience

Taking into consideration that I planned to travel alone from Australia for this experience, my question to you all is: how does a virgin Burner ensure that I am part of a community that isn't hostile and even more so, as a new comer, how can I avoid being painted with the same brush as some of the...

Re: 2019 One Item A Day For Burning Man

Rented a new storage unit for my gear, 'cause my old establishment is closing in a few months . . . a traumatizing prospect for any Burner, I daresay. Rented a U-haul van (never drove a cargo van before! . . . Visibility sucks!) and packed it and then drove it a few miles in the grim rain, unpacked ...

Hey Lekvong ! There are some South Carolina burners on Facebook, and you can also go here: http://regionals.burningman.org And network with Burners 1 state north if you're close to a border (I note they do not have an official SC regional group). You might meet travel companions or hear about meet-u...

I am crushed to hear about MikeGyver's loss. I wasn't lucky enough to be close friends, but he was kind and sweet and gave good hugs. I can't believe the news.

I'll raise a glass to him tonight.

Re: Ideating a meal prep service for BM 2019

I could afford a meal prep service and have excellent experience-based feedback on what foods taste great out there, are easy to heat up, and handle well in a cooler. But fuck your burn, I'm not telling you and out of spite I'm just going to eat pickles, cheese balls, and canned chili this year. Ya...

Re: HAIR concerns on the playa? ;)

I go all week without brushing my hair. I have thick naturally curly shoulder length hair. It dreads on its own. I’m on playa for 14 days. I wash it or rinse it about 3 times. I am fortunate that it curls up nicely. I’m a wash and toss and I think it looks lovely... :D It does. Always very Goddess-y.

The "Captain's LOG is a series of articles written in a style to appeal to the short attention span of today's "millennials" Think of it as a “cliffs notes” version of all the materials on the BMOG webpages and the many years of collective wisdom found in “eplaya” I am a better burner because of th...

Re: Burner in need of a Family

There's nothing wrong with going alone your first time if you are smart, self-reliant, resilient, and well-prepared. You've got to save your money, do a ton of reading (survival guide, ePlaya, whatever you can get your hands on, etc). Having your own vehicle helps a ton, but doesn't mean you can't b...
