Re: Start with what you have. It's easier and cheaper.

I really liked the 2) sewing lace to a bra to make a dress and 2) those sewn-on loop trim that makes for instant cinching.

(Really hard to find short playa dresses I like; sounds like I need to make a few!)

Just realized (on my 99th post) I never said HI to you all. Thanks for the guidance, advice and entertainment! My immediate family had been going for years before I did it in 2014 - we are Reno/Truckee local. First year in I built a figjam cooler and a six foot stretch yurt, both found here on epla...

Re: Water Storage/ Shower Situation

Hello, this year will officially be my first burn! So excited to finally make it to the playa! Since I've never done this before I was wondering what is found to be the best way to store water (we will be using a yurt, no camp trailer). We will have a flatbed trailer to bring supplies etc. Also, wh...

Hey, I’m Jaybob. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been able to attend. I’ve been lurking over the years and have chimed in from time to time, but I have to keep BM at arm’s length when I’m not able to attend. It’s for my own sanity. After four years of being unsuccessful in the main sale I someho...

Rawuk, where the hell are you from, Detroit? Detroit Burners turn out okay. Haha Sham, not from Detroit, but I imagine it has a similar vibe to here. Also, I like your analogy Grumpy. This is what I'm after, the deep end. I need to encourage a new mindset I've never experienced before...

Re: Greetings and salutations

I have wanted to go to Burning Man for many years now. Well this year it looks like my wife and I will get to go, I am really excited and looking forward to this. I know this will be one of those life changing experiences. Even though this is my first time as a burner, I am excited about all the in...

Re: PAGE TWO

What's really pissing me off are BxB people proposing policing burners who carry the event in and out on vehicles. Perhaps every single one of the BxB & BxA travelers should be subject to the sniff dog test? The second thing that is bugging me today is something I predicted some time ago. It would ...

Re: Virgin Burner Couple Looking for an RV to share

At minimum I will get the crew cab again, but the biggest truck bed I can get. I don’t know why, don’t think we ever met, I somehow think of you as jumping out of one of those extra big 4x4 trucks, saddling up a horse, and riding out in one of the great outdoor states like Montana, Dakotas or some ...

Re: Virgin Burner Couple Looking for an RV to share

If I felt comfortable pulling a trailer behind my truck, I'd go that route in a heartbeat. Huh? Any there I was all these decades believing TTITD gets us to push our comfort level ;) Cmmon, you know you can do it! I appreciate your faith in me. . . . Odds of my handling a trailer well are 5...

Re: Virgin Burner Couple Looking for an RV to share

So true--Motzy's trailer only cost him $2,000 used. It had ants, but the playa killed them. He's used it for 5-6 years now. If I felt comfortable pulling a trailer behind my truck, I'd go that route in a heartbeat. I'd probably have to store it professionally during the year though.

Re: Virgin Burner Couple Looking for an RV to share

The lovely thing about a cargo van (besides the fact that you can strap bikes to the interior walls, and it can literally hold everything that 2 people should need) is that you can literally hose out the back of it at a car wash. Bring some shammies and a spray bottle of vinegar for the other dusty ...

Re: 2019 One Item A Day For Burning Man

Great to see you too, Ratty! :D Yeah, I suppose the new place is technically more secure. If someone buzzes in using their own code and then messes with my unit instead, a silent alarm allegedly goes off (I don't know if I buy that). What's clear is that they do have cameras everywhere. Haven't fill...

Re: Looking for my tribe

I'm sorry to hear it, but don't give up yet. Keep tied in to your local meetups, and be sure tell your friends/family/acquaintances you're looking. (Burners love to sell to acquaintances or friends rather than strangers--it's safer and more friendly.) Get your time off, and keep your shopping and pa...

Re: My fear of past discretions affecting 2019 experience

Taking into consideration that I planned to travel alone from Australia for this experience, my question to you all is: how does a virgin Burner ensure that I am part of a community that isn't hostile and even more so, as a new comer, how can I avoid being painted with the same brush as some of the...
