Welcome! :D

Just as well you didn't make it in 2017 . . . it was 110F, every damned day.

You sound like you're surrounded by Burner wisdom and acculturation. This bodes extremely well.

Glad to hear it! Thank you for letting us know how it went, as I think I would be apprehensive at first, if I were in the same position. :)

Post Playa Report. (File this under TMI) I spent a lot of time wearing a kilt, sarongs, & leggings and found that I prefer None (No Undies). I did buy a fanny pack to preserve some of my dignity while wearing the leggings but man I wish I knew how comfortable leggings were before. They feel fan...

Re: Time on the Playa.

I have a battery powered alarm clock ($10) out there that I bought in the Klamath Falls Fred Meyer in 2011. Most of my volunteer shifts start at 7:30am, so I have to get up at 6:45am.

On nights before shifts, I carry either a pocket watch or phone so I get back to camp on time to sleep.

Re: Bikes on the Playa

I've never ridden a fat tire bike, although I certainly would. Cruiser bikes, well-maintained, do fine most of the time. Fat tires are even better, obviously, but if you can't get hold of 'em, there's no need to despair. But as mentioned, even new bikes come with popped innertubes sometimes. Always ...

I'm glad you're meditating! (And exercising). I could stand more of both myself. If you haven't seen this TED Talk--about a neuro researcher who experienced a stroke, and how it changed her--I think you would love it. And by gaining the ability to hold back and truly connect with people I will be more myself and more loving to everyone ! Yes, yes, YES. :) I think this is a tremendously important realization, and I hope you will co...

Re: A solution to suicides (at the man burns/ temple burns)

They'll probably just add some portable security/pool safety fences to slow down and corral the runners so they can be caught with fewer people. It's about as much as can be done as a determined runner will eventually be able to bypass obstacles. The perimeter nearly caught the guy running around t...

Wellll, hopefully Paul knows we're just busting his chops about the "sleeping alone" business, because sleeping two people in a passenger vehicle is actually a tricky prospect, best for only the most easy-going or playa-accustomed couples . . . & perhaps even then, in nothing smaller t...

True--if he died, it will eventually make the news/The AfterBurn report/etc.

No need to give up hope on this until you hear for sure. The odds are that he actually survived. Take heart!

Exceedingly well done! :D Thank you for sharing your experience. Car camping is not for everyone, but I wish there were more folks as hardy, practical, and flexible. Re: Overly Aggressive LEOs This Year?

We had a lurker come through our camp at 7:30 and C asking for drugs, as we shooed him away. He came back a few days later, and we quickly passed the word that he was a narc, so no one interacted with him. One other night, my husband and I were clearly, visibly intoxicated at the Tree of Tenere whe...

Re: Overly Aggressive LEOs This Year?

In years past, I have seen extremely aggressive LEO's. They did some bizarre sting on our camp to check ownership of the RVs and trailers. Still not sure WTF that was all about, but before they left, one cop asked me if he could have one of my necklaces. I told him, "under the circumstances, N...

I must be out of the loop but when did rolling papers become a target of sting ops? Is that probable cause to search you or something? I don't know when it started, but I've seen it in Law Enforcement threads before. I don't know if it can actually be used as probable cause, legally, because lots o...

We received a number of visits at ESD from passersby seeking tampons. ESD ran out of Tampax by Temple Day (if not before). When ESD does have tampons, they're unable to distribute enough for one person for 4 or 5 days; they can give you 1-2, tops--enough to hold you over while you ask friends, neigh...
