Re: Best layout for a camp of 2 people

One thing I've done is to put the monkey hut adjacent to the side wide door or tucked over the back door of a van. Then try to bridge some fabric to "seal" the monkey hut to the van door. Keep the van door closed as much as possible. Then cover all the van windows with mylar space blanket...

I agree that politicians practice "legal" corruption. But I don't believe it is so FUBAR we should give up, or vote third party for to protest. Here is another way to look at it. Most voters are not paying attention. Some presidential year elections get OK turnout, but we can do better. Of...

Re: Hi. I’m new too!

Welcome! You are already on the path of getting ready! The event is just a wilderness campout with 70,000 people and a lot of dust. The monkey hut has many discussions, photos and websites. They are inexpensive, you can resuse the pipe for irrigation at home, the tarp and rope is reuseable at home. ...

Free Candy for US Senate Van! Because older Jesus hooked up with teen Mary for that virgin birth. Then there are the Donald and Ivanka growing up images, so it must be A-OK. Because we need a Republican Senate to save us from immorality. QED. https://img.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=https...

Re: Virtual Reality Bus // Looking Towards 2018

Did you work with the Burning Man Artery last year? If not, you might ask them for project VR contacts. If you place art or get funded, read the contract thoroughly. It's ideal to work in person with people you like, so perhaps your regional has art contacts. Toronto, nearby, is a big creative town....

Welcome to ePlaya! The camp or solo debate is fierce on ePlaya. I know Ontario is very large, but do you know there is a regional there: https://regionals.burningman.org/regionals/canada/. That is a good way to meet other creative people and after a few months that could lead to being asked to join ...

Re: Dust protection for audio equipment

I would strongly recommend against blowing high humidity air into audio equipment that has ever been on the playa or is on the playa. Some oxides in the dust in the presence of moisture form strong hydroxides which are corrosive. Sodium hydroxide - (lye, draino) and others are produced and result in...

@DraggerM 10 years ago, it was all word of mouth, and it got a great crowd. You might do some research on how the playa events database propagates through the API to the apps. That's a lot of spectators.

Hey Doc, here’s everything you could ever wanna know about setting up a full-camp power distribution from a big generator. Re: Generator rental and delivery

If you are renting anything, be sure you are confident you can remove all traces of the dust, or that the renter knows and agrees to handle the dust. Until you have gone to the event, it is impossible to understand the dust. Here is a start - the disassembly of a camera that went to Burning Man. A g...

Unlikely, because it wouldn't be secure at drop off, pick up or during the burn. The number of outside services rental companies is small. https://burningman.org/event/camps/deliveries/outside-services-providers/ hasn't been updated, you can email outside services to get a current list. I think a mature person can volunteer in their first year. Many of the professional services like ESD do it in well organized and managed departments. I would say the airport does have a lot of costumes and playfulness while being well organized. And volunteering places you in a group of potential f...

Mr Ygmir, completely understand your point. If it was possible to separate small individual retirement rentals, which I agree are better, from REITs and the Trumps of the world, great! We should be looking for ways to slow down irrational property inflation, while promoting building with long useful...

The Trump/Ryan proposed tax plan eliminates the deduction for state and local taxes on individuals, but preserves them for corporations. Probably the cleanest thing that could be done is eliminate all corporate deductions, then special interest corporate deductions could be rebuilt over time. That w...

I love the old man. We can't do hay bales because MOOP, but I think the ever escalating man budget should go to lower ticket prices. 1996 was Helco, where you could sell your soul, and maybe LH did, so 1997 sells out is a logical follow on.

Re: A solution to suicides (at the man burns/ temple burns)

The BLM probably doesn't have a lot of experience in SRP liability. The last detailed Afterburn Report in 2013 had about $500K insurance costs in a $26M budget. That would include all kinds of insurance, including property and workman's comp. In my observation, the BORG has an able legal staff and a...

I’m thinking about setting up a LoRa Network and outfitting our entire camp’s bikes with very small GPS/transmitter rigs to track all of the bikes. It will provide not only pinpoint accuracy but it would be pretty easy to develop an app that would actually log all the locations the whole week to se...
