Re: 7 people seeking camp

The reason for the passion is that your post represents some of the trends destroying the event, though you might not have realized it or rationalize it does not apply. The BMORG in my observation generally only makes slight adjustments but otherwise lets the event sort of evolve itself. But the BMO...

I'm beginning to think the international expansion of the Nevada regional was a mistake. You want radical: each camp collecting dues publishes its accounting books to its campers and Placement. If the books are secret it's just like a Joie de Vivre hotel.

Re: UK Birgins - LA or Seattle?!??!

Hi welcome to ePlaya. It's your first year, you can only be a virgin once. I would strongly discourage a private RV share unless the owner has rented for the burn before. Even commercial RV shares can create big challenges over cleaning disputes. One of the special things about the playa is the dust...

Reach out to your first degree in person burner friends and go to their events. Between that and second degree to friends, you will have no problem. The Regionals list will have meetups, FB groups, happy hours and more.

The city moves just slightly each year. It does not move enough to change the Black Rock City prevailing winds you can find by an image search. If you locate out toward walk in camping you are on the way to the airport, and in the best wind situation. You could talk to other fixit camps and see if y...

Re: Lag VS rebar on bus

Welcome to the burn and ePlaya. There are 2 use cases: tents and shade structures. For tents, 10 - 12 inch galvanized gutter or landscape nails are super. Home despot has them. You can set and remove them with a claw hammer, also a home despot item. Shade structures get into more serious anchors you...

Gathering up your riders outbound is more difficult than you can imagine. Let me give you an example. I was riding back with a friend I had known at least 2 years camped about half the city away. They were a responsible-type person. So I went over to their camp the day before we were planning to lea...

I see the Captain as the loyal opposition to some of the directions the event has gone, trends and their side effects, Of course the reason for volunteering, or even going, is pleasure. But there is a lot of value and insight from veterans on how to evolve the cult event. Even Bob the Couch was grum...

Search ePlaya for gwally and NW. There are some downhill curves inbound S of Eagleville which can cause a crash if you are speeding. There is open range in NV where you don't want to crash into a cow on the road. Don't swerve for jackrabbits.

Outside services for camps in 2018

To respond to Plug and Play -PnP- camp expansion the BMORG is capping outside services. Outside services deliver PnP RVs, generators and more. They are https://burningman.org/event/camps/deliveries/outside-services-providers/. BMORG thoughts on limiting (yippee-ki-yay) is explained at https://www.yo...

Volunteering for Burning Man Departments in 2018

Burning Man has many departments to make the event happen. Most of them run on mostly volunteers. You can read all about it on the main website https://burningman.org/event/volunteering. Some are mission critical. They only take experienced burners and require special skills. They would not be good ...

Some people think Burning Man's decommodification principle and practice is not important. It is. The music industry is 2/3 controlled by 3 companies. One, the largest, Vivendi-Interscope has a branded wine designed for major festivals and sold through exclusive arrangements with festivals. "Wi...

Re: New burner looking at 2018. Tons of questions.

Consider starting a list of questions that aren't answered on the BM website. One specific question could be carpooling and gathering up your riders outgoing. I strongly suggest first year burners make a packing list, because it's a wilderness campout even in an RV. I then revise mine each year, and...

I know people who study this. It's a generational thing. If all your life you have been able to ask social media to do something for you (for free) you begin to believe it's normal. The less social and more anonymous the platform the less risk of judgement. People ask others to search for them, give...

This topic comes up often questioned by fly in burners. Connect with the Nevada regional/ Reno burners to discuss. Used dusty camping equipment is a cost to handle and clean. Donated to Nevada homeless requires inventorying parts and washing dust off. So set expectations. You paid X incoming. You wi...

All of our bike mechanics might get a laugh out of this. Many China businesses irrationally build overcapacity. That results in falling prices and bankruptcy. Every year we get many "lone ticketing geniuses" who have a plan to make it perfect. The organizers of the event have a huge amount of proprietary data on ticketing. Likely the demand in the open sales is 2-3x the supply, maybe more. The supply of DGS is probably about half the demand. The...
