A few days after we got 24" of snow here I went to go park my car in my lot but we had lost half of the spots on my side where bulldozers dumped snow. The lot on the other side was nice and clear where the maintenance guys plowed it. No reserved parking, so I picked a random spot. Later that night i...

Opinions on the Solar Industry in California???

So basically, I hate my current job and hate living in the 'burbs of No. Virginia even more. I need to shake things up. I've been thinking of getting a job in the solar industry for over a year now. I think, with thin film technology, solar might be ready to go main stream and I want to help out and...

Uhaul vs. The Playa

Has anyone ever rented a Uhaul, or something similar, and brought it to BM? I was thinking I might pack all my camping gear in a suit case and fly to Reno. Then rent a truck there. I could buy supplies in Reno and once I get to the playa I'd have a shade structure all ready to pitch a tent in.... :r...

I was laid-off 5 years ago and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Current job is on shaky ground but I already got a plan to turn it into a positive if I do get shit-canned. Life is funny like that. Seems to know when to kick you in the ass when you get stagnant. Some people climb the m...

Nature is an amazing artist!

Just thought I would share some pictures I got of the cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin in DC this morning. http://i733.photobucket.com/albums/ww332/travisfoster1980/IMG_0476.jpg http://i733.photobucket.com/albums/ww332/travisfoster1980/IMG_0465.jpg http://i733.photobucket.com/albums/ww332/travisfo...

3 Season Tents?

I remember reading somewhere that 3 season tents are good for keeping the dust out. I thinking of buying a new tent, not just for BM but local summer camping as well. What do you guys think? Is it worth the extra money or should I just go with a summer tent and embrace the dust. :D

Well I'm heading to DC tomorrow. I think if I didn't I would regret it for the rest of my life. Being that I'm so close and have no reason not to go. I've made all my plans and am ready to go! All bridges to DC will be closed to traffic so I'll have to get up at round 3am and walk at least 3mi. Small price to pay to be part of history, right....

Layoff! A blessing in disguise?

Instead of getting an X-mas bonus this year I got this nice little email from my company. Basically it said they're going broke, everyone has to take a pay cut, and the shit hasn't hit the fan yet but it's in the sling. But the really shitty thing is they shut down the place down for two weeks and m...

Can't beat CamelBaks for hydration. I have one and use it for hiking/fishing all the time. They hold 2-3L and some have alot of cargo space for goggles, dust masks, ect. Interesting topic! When I was a kid growing up in Ohio, I used to spend weekends with my great granddad. He lived in the woods. It was wonderful. Those woods were full of all sorts of wild life. Deer, raccoon, birds, wild turkeys, berry bushes, a pond. In the spring we used to hunt black morels , in...
