Re: Overly Aggressive LEOs This Year?

Weren't the police playing postal carrier a few years back, and delivering packages to camps thinking the boxes MUST be stuffed with illegal drugs. I don't think that turned out to be anything worthwhile for them.

Re: Limitless! (Self-Love, Self-Awareness, & Healing/Growth)

It sounds like you found exactly what you were looking for---only different. The playa is like that. From your first post, you appeared fully enveloped and submerged in giving. The kind person you found on the playa seems to have guided you in a different direction. This is something I hope you can ...

Re: Beautiful Headdress with Horns and Chainmail Loincloth Skirt Lost- Crazy story attached!

It sounds like quite a mess you had going on there. The good news is you kept a crew busy for 3 hours going in circles for nothing. Personally, if I knew I had nothing to hide, I would have kept them following me all night. These are all practice drills that various LEO's come to Burning Man to play...

Re: Interacting with official misinformation?

Hymie the robot from the TV series Get Smart (1965-1970) took every word spoken to him literally. That's how he was programmed. Using the term "get lost" meant exactly that. Hard to believe this was on over 50 years ago. Seems like yesterday. https://peopledotcom.files.wordpress.co...

Re: Next Directions for Burning Man

For me personally, it seems that the music camps are attracting the non-burner type, weekend party crowd. That music appears to be the reason that there is now an entertainment tax on what started as a counter-culture arts festival in the desert. (mostly debauchery) Yes, it's all inclusive, but putt...

Re: Next Directions for Burning Man

Mod hat off, dusty burner hat on. Each year we seem to have someone do something stupid and there are new rules the following year. Before we all know it, the entire event will be "theme park sterile". All sharp edges on everything will be ground down so no one gets a boo-boo. I recall dri...

Re: Overly Aggressive LEOs This Year?

In years past, I have seen extremely aggressive LEO's. They did some bizarre sting on our camp to check ownership of the RVs and trailers. Still not sure WTF that was all about, but before they left, one cop asked me if he could have one of my necklaces. I told him, "under the circumstances, NO...

Re: Carport replacement poles

I did a simple Google search and lots of sites came up. I'm not sure of exact sizes of the poles, but I know various companies sell them. I think the entire carport is just over $200 now, so it may be cheaper to buy an entire carport and use parts as needed.

Playa magic....

Playa magic is that thing that happens at Burning Man that would defy logic anywhere else on the planet. On the playa, it seems to happen to most everyone--and several times during the week. Share your playa magic stories here. I'll start, but it's just pre-playa as this begins. Each year I try to s...

Re: First Time - Gift Ideas?

Years back, we had a neighbor who was a dentist and he thought that giving tooth brushes out instead of candy was a good idea for Halloween. It was (he thought) a sensible alternative to candy. Virtually every one of those tooth brushes ended up on his front lawn. He only did that ONCE. There may be...

Welcome Purple. As others have mentioned in the past, just bring an open mind and your willingness to help with anything that may be needed. I'm not sure that the sample size toothpaste would be an appropriate thing to bring as a gift unless it was playa dust flavored. (flavoured in Canada) Come to ...

The rebar caps are the most preferable to cover the sharp tops of rebar, but consider bright duct tape wrapped to cover the sharp edges as an option. It can be seen easily at night, and the razor sharp edges are covered. 8)

Maybe 6 years ago, I brought a large bag of black Sharpies to distribute around the Temple for people to write notes on the structure. I walked around slowly and placed them every 6 feet or so. As I worked my way around and continued to put more out, I noticed that virtually every one of them was ta...

It can get extremely cold at night. Last year, it was in the low 30's. I gave my comforter to a camp mate who was really unprepared and I slept in 2 layers of clothes. It was really freezing. Prepare for 100+ days and below freezing nights.

Welcome to eplaya and the world of Burning Man. If I may offer up my generic advice for first timers, I hope you will listen. I suggest that you come and enjoy the event. Don't try to go crazy gifting things and going overboard. You may find that the event is very different than you are imagining it...
