Re: Dream come true for a first time burner

Welcome to eplaya Mama Ricci. Many people find the trip to Black Rock City extremely therapeutic. Everybody burns their own way, but I think you'll find the Temple particularly poignant this year. You could spend some very quiet time at the Temple and leave some notes, a letter, photos or mementos t...

Re: Looking to camp somewhere new this year

I camp pretty close to Center Camp. It gets pretty busy and loud at all hours of the day and night. You are in a quieter neighborhood, but can easily get to action. Moving closer down towards the Esplanade will improve the excitement.

Re: Looking for camp lead

Our camp lead just "assumed the position". I'll call her Pat. She saw so many gaps in the way things were run, so she stepped up and made great spreadsheets, and started organizing meals and tasks around the camp. She was very careful not to make it appear that she was stepping on toes, bu...

Re: Transporting Gas

Any tips on getting fuel to the playa? I’ll be renting a van but I’m pretty sure having (3) 5 gallon tanks in the back isn’t a good idea. Why do you need 15 gallons of gas on the playa? Is this for a vehicle? There are very specific guidelines for storing gasoline at Burning Man. https://burningman...

Re: Easy digital cameras VS The Playa

I just got a Fuji XP130. It seems to be "everything proof", and has all the features I use on the playa. Zoom, stills, video, high resolution. Shockproof, dust proof, waterproof. I'll be using it for the first time today.

Re: Catching a Thief

My best guess is that a bunch of the 5000 bikes left on the playa were bikes "borrowed" because they weren't locked. Bikes that are taken like that are just left where they land. The owners never find them. There is another interesting phenomenon that's happened to me many times. I leave m...

May 25th is Memorial weekend. I think I’ll be camping at the Black Rock Rendevous. I’m really glad that my medicinal plants are not the cause of my allergies. That would be tragic  Enjoy the show On that note, a legal shop was approved last night in the little town I live in in MA. It would go...

Hello everyone! Greetings from Canada! I'm a student attending Western University in Ontario (in the process of completing my B.A. in philosophy). I've been aware of burning man for a few years now, and I've finally decided that I would begin doing some concrete preparation in order to attend next ...

Re: RIP Larry Harvey

Our camp is planning on doing various remembrances for Larry this year. Larry was a very unassuming, down to earth guy who remained passionate about all that Burning Man stood for. So many thousands of lives were transformed by the grueling trek to the Black Rock Desert, but in reality, it simply un...

I chatted with Larry several times over the years. He was a very modest and unassuming guy.
This amazing event and his legacy will carry on with his vision and wishes as a guide.
A truly nice guy who made a big mark in the world.
He will be missed.

Re: Mini Fridge? Chest Fridge? What's your zero-ice solution?

I have a mini fridge with a top freezer. Our generator crapped out during the week so I switched over to a 400 watt Harbor Freight power inverter connected to a battery in a rental car. It ran extremely well for about 10 hours with the car off. We also ran the camp LED lights (and an extension cord ...

Need one ticket and vp. Live in the Dallas, TX area. Thank you. Dallas has a very active regional group. Very often people buy tickets and have to cancel because their cat coughed up a fur ball, or they can't get the time off from work. It may be worthwhile to join your local group. Good luck in fi...

I just looked at the U-haul site out of curiosity. Lets see. So I fly into SFO. Take the Bart to Concord. Uber to the U-Haul. Shop, sleep in the U-Haul. Sight see in the U-Haul. Go to Yosemite in the U-Haul. OK. Maybe not. Go to Tahoe and Reno. Go to Burning Man. What could go wrong??? Road trips a...

Or use your own truck. That’s what I’ve always done. I’ve carried many tons of stuff to the playa in trucks that cost less than what most of people pay to rent one. YES! I bought a used U-Haul box truck and did a full overhaul of it. The truck was $500, so I bought a second one just to have spare p...

Re: 7 people seeking camp

Luke, I think the best suggestion you got at this point is to plan on camping as your own camp. You have a 32 foot RV with a generator, pulling an additional trailer behind it. That alone is taking up a good chunk of someone's theme camp real estate. By camping in the open camping area, you can take...

Re: Cargo Van Rental Anxiety

Where did you rent the truck out of? San Francisco. Your dates of rental are a dead give-a-way. The truck rental companies get hundreds (or thousands) of calls to rent box trucks for those boxed in dates. Have you considered renting a minivan and buying a camping tent? All the way around, it will b...
