!!READ ME!! Trilo's Unofficial Last Minute Ticket Advice

We are getting to the final crunch! As I am currently scrambling to get my art and my camp and my own burn prep finished, my time on the site is limited. The other moderators on the team (Eric, Savannah, Sham, AntiM, Elderberry and mdmf007) are here but also getting their own stuff ready. That means...

I'm moving this over to the Recommendations board, since that's a better fit for what/where do I buy threads.

Re: Playa Foot - instead of vinegar...

I've always done playa foot salad. Wash hands/feet with vinegar-soaked washcloth first, then rub in olive oil. It not only feels really good and moisturizes the skin, it changes the smell basically to salad dressing for 5 minutes or so... not really very disagreeable at all. Vinegar has the added ad...

Both Time To Burn and iBurn have issued their 2017 updates. Check your app stores and grab your updates!

Many thanks to the creators of these fine applications, and the tech team for doing all the API stuff and geeky things to help make that happen.

Re: The Bar 2017 Edition

Crazy times indeed... shots all round (of your beverage of choice, of course)... Woohoo to all those embarking, I've finished the last of the shopping and errands, tomorrow morning I pick up the trailer and start loading out. Is it wrong to get a real sense of satisfaction in catching and blocking a...

August 23 Reno Travel Advisory

Heads-up! If you live in the Reno area, or will be traveling through Reno on Wednesday 23 August, be aware that the president will be in town giving a speech . No, I don't imagine that any of you would want to drop everything and attend... but this could potentially cause some significant disruption...

Re: 2017 One Item A Day For BM List......

I made what I believe may be my last lumber yard/hardware store run for the season. I also got a bit more of the food shop done, and working on the last bits of laundry. My gf located the bag with her camera for the playa this morning, that's a load off her mind. Mine is still packed in a bin from t...

Re: Missed Burner Express sale

Yeah, the lesson is not to wait until the last second - those tickets were readily available for months. You have left yourself with very few options - do the work, wait and hope you're lucky in the thing on Saturday, hustle and find a rideshare, find a vehicle pass and then book a rental (more expe...

Re: 2017 One Item A Day For BM List......

Today was an insanely busy day, but I still managed several hours of full on get 'er done mode. Finished the last of my trike maintenance and it's done and ready to go, then finished a deep maintenance on my generator (oil change, air filter, spark plug, and even replaced the spark arrestor), then g...

Re: The best pen

Ratty - fuck that noise, I can't stand the retractable sharpies. They're a nuisance, and either just have less ink than the regular ones or dry out in the desert faster than a good sharpie with a cap. I'm perfectly happy to use the ones with caps (which are also usually cheaper), I don't think I've ...

Re: Seeking One-way Ride from SF (East Bay) to BRC 8/25 or 8/26

You would not be able to participate in the rideshare unless you already have your own work access pass, valid for entry on that date (if anyone in the vehicle does not have one, the entire vehicle will be turned around and sent to Reno). Work Access Passes are not transferable between camps and pro...

Re: The best pen

Well said, FM, I agree. Sharpies dry out fast if you leave them in the sun, or with the caps off. If you can avoid those two things, they work well for most surfaces - I use them for most needs. I bring a small pile of black, red, and silver sharpies (aside from looking cool, they mark well on dark ...

Re: Plywood Triangle Gussets for Wood Structure: How does DPW do it?

I'm with Token. Even a plywood with a fancy finish top layer is almost certainly going to be made up of a number of layers angled in different directions. For stronger parts, I'd recommend looking for the most layers in the given thickness of wood. On a side note, on a 45-45-90 triangle the orientat...

I made a tweak to the subject line of this thread, since that removes the company name from the subject line, and really this is a good discussion filled with solid advice for anyone renting equipment from any company for the event. Ouch, Doc, I feel your pain! I had someone do that on some non-playa stuff I was shipping a couple years back, somewhere in their brain they mixed up their home address with their office city and zip code. WTF, when would you ever need to mash that info up?

Re: The Bar 2017 Edition

That is a good point. It is worth noting that in order to camp there, you must buy a permit from the Paiute tribe in advance. I'm not sure the cost or the hours, but they've been known to be tough on unpermitted campers. Coming from Illinois, there are two other options I can see. One is to overshoo...
