Can anyone say definitively (and maybe verify photographically) how many pairs of painted street signs are at each intersection? Is it one pair, or two?

Suspended Animation needs your help
Suspended Animation has commissioned a unique art piece from Seattle artist (and Black Rock City Hardware member) Geo: an all-steel suspension rated bondage bed that will make its debut in Black Rock City in just a couple of weeks, and then travel back to Seattle. This purpose-built, hand-constructe...

Re: Inverter vs Generator
Suspended Animation uses both! We have an inverter, and charge it with our generator. The advantage is that we can run the generator full force into the inverter to charge it, then trickle power off the inverter for the rest of the day. This means we don't run the genny 24/7 just to power a string ...

Re: Kids & Teenagers at Burning Man
Back in 2007 I got hit with a with a serious sinus infection just as we got to the playa, and ended up spending the first several days in the med tent. As such, I got to witness a long string of things that went anywhere from mildly to seriously wrong. The most sobering of these things -- worse than...

Zang here, structural engineer for Suspended Animation . We have a lot of experience in tying things to other things, and in particular I have a lot of experience in structural rigging -- including helping other camps tie off their tarps so they don't shred. Your biggest problem won't be how to secu...

I'm talking about getting in the door! I just appreciate good rope work and wanted to be there for the fetlife getogether. Ah! Right. Well, another good way is to stop by off-hours and volunteer to help out with an event or two, or just around camp. That way you get in through the back door, as it ...

We waited in line for 45 minutes one night and gave up. Hope our timing is better this year. Yeah, bondage rides are insanely popular. The secret to getting in the air is this: show up early and be first on the list; or just stop by camp to say hi during our "off" hours and see if someone wants to ...

Suspended Animation is back for 2011 -- inquire within
Suspended Animation will be returning to Black Rock City, and we have all sorts of kinky mischief planned. This year's theme is spot on for us, so you can expect some breathtaking rites of passage to be crafted. We are also open to new camp members. A couple of things to consider before jumping on b...

The pattern I'm seeing here is: 1. Theme camps who provide amenities, and expect contribution/cash. 2. Theme camps who provide no amenities, and expect self reliance. We're definitely of the first variety. We have shade for the residential tents, showers, kitchen, 24/7 power, hammock farm. On the ot...

Suspended Animation will be there
Bummer to hear that Atonement and Iniquity aren't in this year.
That said, Suspended Animation will be back. We're polishing up our schedule right now, and it looks likely that we'll be hosting an open BDSM play party in our pavilion on Wednesday night.

I also saw a few trucks during exodus that looked suspiciously full - and they didn't look like the community bikes either. Hmm, bike theft rings on the Playa? Bike thieves suck, definitely. You think, "Hey, if we get 100 people to camp with us at $100 a pop, well damn. We could pocket $10K!" Of course, I'm not taking this personally, but it's worth noting that none of us is pocketing anything, let alone ten grand. Ohoh, yeah, I didn't mean literally you pocket ten grand. I meant, one ...

My question regarding the quote above, though, is: how can you afford all that with only 22 people in your camp (and presumably paying dues). This, I think, is the most interesting question in this entire thread. The short version is: funding the startup of a new camp requires significant capital, ...

I don't really understand the bias against camps where a core team of 10-20 people builds a structure that is shared and enjoyed by 100+ campers, who are contributing a wide range of other things to our camp and to BRC in general. Having help with their personal shelter/shade could mean that they s...

Metrics for placement
Someone said much earlier upstream that the metric was likely ratio of interactivity to number of people and space needed. Some of the camps that didn't get placed had neat ideas, but wayyyy too many people. A 50x50 shade structure with a bamboo dance floor sounds awesome, but 130 people to build an...
