Re: cooling your tent or van
Thanks Canoe - I appreciate the reply - great information!! So sounds like just cracking that exhaust vent when we turn the cooler on is all we need to do. Sweet!

Re: cooling your tent or van
Wow - I'm so happy to see this thread still going strong!! Hi Figgy :) We're on to a new adventure this year, handing the yurt down and bought a small travel trailer. I'm thinking up the best way to run the bucket cooler vent through jalousie windows (or building a new box cooler), and we're replaci...

Re: Testing a Monkey Hut - Fail
Hi Figgy!! Come find me at Marvin (Idaho CORE) and say hello :) Staying on topic, hehe...We are repurposing our old Aluminet monkey hut for our bar structure this year, so I need to build another for our hexayurt front porch shade - the 3/4" pvc seems a little weak, but thought possibly someone in h...

Re: Testing a Monkey Hut - Fail
Would using 5 foot lengths of 3/4" pvc with 2 foot long 1"pvc sleeves for the ribs, covered with shade cloth be a fail? Maybe do 3 spines of the 3/4" pvc instead of just one to give it more stability? I have access to about 15 pieces of 20' long 3/4" schedule 40 pvc for free, but don't want my hut t...

Re: Tax question for theme camps...
My unprofessional 2 cents: if you spend all the money you take in, you have no taxable income from your venture - you aren't "earning" money, you are collecting a pool of money to be spent. Keep records just in case. If there is money leftover in the account at year end, however, you may need to rep...

Re: Idaho CORE - Marvin, The Vortexagon
Our lighting engineer just finished wiring up one of the blocks for Marvin - there will be 60 of these 4 foot by 4 foot blocks in the structure - epileptics may want to stay away, it's going to get crazy  Please consider tossing a few bucks to our Kickstarter, we are in the final days of ou...

Idaho CORE - Marvin, The Vortexagon Fundraiser
Did you love OpalEssence last year? Would you like to see something similar in 2013? Meet Marvin, The Vortexagon, brought to you by the Idaho CORE team. Marvin needs your help. If you can spare a few bucks, or even just pass the link around to your friends, we would be eternally grateful. http://www...

Re: Could you guys maybe do the CORE burn on Friday?
I was part of the Idaho CORE team last year and I'll tell you we liked the Thursday burn very much - by Thursday we were ready to be DONE with OpalEssence and enjoy the rest of the weekend. I was so worthless on Friday I couldn't even get out of bed to go watch Wall Street burn - good thing it was m...

Re: Pre-Register For The Individual Ticket Sale
ConnieH - as per the Low Income section of the tickets page , "These tickets are reserved for participants on a limited income who cannot otherwise afford our regular priced ticket." My guess is that participating in the Individual Sale would disqualify that low income application. As for the usern...

Re: Pre-Register For The Individual Ticket Sale
You may not participate in another sale if you receive a low income ticket. That's all fine and good if you get confirmation that you received a low income ticket prior to the main sale next week, but what if you're still waiting to hear? Is it ok to create a burner profile and pre-register for the...

Sixth burn since 2003. I hate to complain, but this guy won my Jerk Award ribbon and reminded me how crummy a person can be amongst an otherwise-awesome group of people. You took my handicapped friend's water. In the desert. After we said no. We partied and watched the sun rise. We were at Disco Kn...

A "grandfathered" off-leash DPW dog peed on our egg, which is kinda funny to think about, but he peed on the electronic controllers for the $5k worth of lighting of our CORE project...he's lucky that he didn't get electrocuted (although mighta served it right), and lucky that our electronics were no...

Idaho CORE - opalEssence (or Space Potato, or big Egg...)
I haven't been to Eplaya in ages because I've been uber-busy with the Idaho crew working hard to complete our regional entry to the CORE burn. This Saturday the last piece was screwed into place and our egg is now complete - I'm sooooooo proud of this crew and all their hard work!!! Just wait until ...

Re: does non profit=tax deduction???
It's not a donation, you are getting an entry ticket in exchange for your money, so it's not a deductible contribution to a non-profit. Now for business owners like Dr. Pyro, he can write it off as a business expense, just like he can write off travel expenses getting to a business conference, items...

Re: Burning Man should buy land and fuck being a BLM hostage
Buying land is feasible and could certainly be done. Dry grazing land averages about $500-1000/acre around Nevada/Southern Oregon/Southwest Idaho, sometimes even less. I happen to know a little bit about buying or exchanging for BLM land, too, although that is a multi-year process with a lot (LOT!) ...

Re: CORE - Circle of Regional Effigies - 2012??
And another question, does the December 1st deadline for BRAF's Letters of Intent apply to CORE projects? I've heard talk that CORE projects are "by invitation only", but have nothing to verify that with. Our regional contact recalls an email last year, but has since deleted it. We are trying to gua...

CORE - Circle of Regional Effigies - 2012??
Does anyone know if the CORE project (Circle of Regional Effigies) will happen again in 2012, or was that just a one shot deal for 2011? Idaho missed the boat last year, we weren't able to organize in time

Re: Give Hushville More Space
I think I understand what Lemur is trying to point out - regardless of the "theme" of the camp, some smaller camps bring in more participants than Hushville. We did it with a megaphone and a sales pitch - there was a sea of bikes at our camp nearly every day, the bar was packed, people were bowling...

Re: Give Hushville More Space
Hushville utilizes space more efficiently than any other village. Check the satellite pics. Before preregistration was required, we had Hushville Calcutta. Few planned interior villager streets, camps overlapping. We woke up to tents between the guylines of our shade structure! You got that right!!...

Re: HexaYurts
Just readin' through the hexayurt site again and there's a recent update on the flammability of the hexayurt using insulation made of foam. When a piece is burned alone, it generally doesn't burn so fast but apparently the enclosed space built of foam is a different story (read: highly flammable). ...

Re: HexaYurts
Small question -- let's say I wanted to paint over the reflective part of the insulation. Is there foil-like/silver paint that will keep reflecting sun that I could use to paint the yurt with? If there is, I wonder if I can add color to the silver paint or perhaps find various colors of the paint (...

Re: HexaYurts
Ill be curious to hear whether the paint helped (and that it didn't crack or peel,) So how do you handle the tape anchors? I assume that you don't run tape over the roof from side to side when you make them, or you'd end up cutting your folding hinges when disassembling. Or do you even use tape anc...

Re: HexaYurts
Actually, the UV degradation of the tape is the main flaw in the folding Hexayurt design. If you have to replace the tape each year, I'm having a hard time justifying the extra work involved in the folding design only to have to redo it each year anyway. Now if I ever find a bidirectional filament ...
