Screwed by Uhaul need help getting gear back to Reno

Hello all! I'm Whiskey or Heiro or Mr. P. I camped with BooBy Bar in 2009 and organized the Cosmic Collidescope in 2010 before moving to Australia. This year we've teamed up with a crew from Oregon called the 7 Deadly Sins at 730 & A. Coming from OZ, we booked everything early, including the box tru...

Regarding Mr. Polando's evaporator design, which seems to be pretty popular...With me, too. I'm about to build mine to test it out a bit before taking it to the Playa this summer. A thought: Seems one of the difficulties with the design is keeping the top disc perfectly level, to allow water to cas...

You are thinking to hard about it. Just go to www.desertdomes.com and build one. I have built many domes and my brother did all kinds of engineering on the calculations from desert domes just to know how to do it manually and it works. The first dome we made sure everything was cut and drill to 1/3...

I ran into a whole crew of burners from San Diego this year. They were camped at like 4:00 & A. I can't remember the name of their camp but they did certify me to breed on wednesday of the event, which may have been a jinx.

Re: hexayurt?

how'd the hexayurt work out? we were pretty happy w/ ours, not as roomy head height wise, but way less dusty....I understand the need for projects btw :) The yurt was amazing! Our clearance was great due to the peaked roof we put on the door wall. We faced that wall (by dumb luck) opposite the prev...

You may be misunderstanding the whole theme camp thing. Not every camp at burning man is a theme camp, lot's of people set up their own small camps just like you would going camping with friends. I'll be interested to see how your tests go, though I suspect you are right in your assumptions that paint (especially any darker color) will have a negative effect on the reflectivity and cooling properties. We're going for six foot walls, which is why we are adding the additional two feet at the bottom of the horizontal panels. This way we only need to cut three 4' x 8' pieces in half. No waste. My 'guess' is that it wouldn't reduce the insulation value much, if at all, should you paint it. I just would stick to the lighter colors. I am just basing this on the way those panels are used in building--they are covered by whatever the external finish is--wood, brick, etc. We painted a flower g...

Does anyone have any thoughts about using R-Tech insulation versus the foil coated R-Max (or similar Thermax, Tuff-R)? R-Tech is basically white styrofoam with some kind of clear plastic film coating, so it's white, not reflective like the R-Max. Seems a flimsy-er, but I can get the R-Tech $8 per p...
