Re: Professional Playa Power Protocols
That's just the sound system, so 150 to 180 decibels? I'm not sure how many decibels yet. We haven't designed the sound system yet we've only had some initial discussions about the size of the crowd we hope for and the number of speakers needed to produce a quality experience for them. We have a so...

I've never done a big art car like that. But really, 10 to 15kw? Hope you stick to the deep playa and don't park by my camp at 6am like some of your cousins do. Modern lighting with LEDs is much more efficient so you can make an incredible light show for much less today, though some LED systems hav...

Re: Professional Playa Power Protocols
I have two main articles on this topic, and am building some more: http://www.templetons.com/brad/burn/burn-power.html is about managing power without a generator, or just an occasional one. http://www.templetons.com/brad/burn/generators.html is for building a larger power network off a tow-behind ...

Re: cooling your tent or van
I've used both types in house coolers and there is no difference. Under perfect conditions you get 30 degrees cooling. That's what I get and the duracool pads are easier to work with. 8) badass that's exactly the type of info i was looking for! Thanks so much Figjam :D time to put in my order for d...

Re: cooling your tent or van
has anyone tried the aspen pads with the bucket or box designs? from researching the duracool and aspen pads it seemed like most people that used them in home systems agreed that their temp dropped between 5-15 degrees more with the aspen pads vs duracool due to the synthetic material not getting sa...

I would be interested to hear about Burning Flipside when you go, bubba. it's more hippy dippy than burning man and hot/humid as fuck. a lot of people that go to flipside love it, but for me it doesn't hold a candle to the desert. i've been twice before and was disappointed both times, i'm gonna gi...

I've often thought about this. They're such simple tools how hard could it really be to make a home made badass one.

Re: anyone have experience with yeti coolers?
Just thought I'd post an update on this. I ended up keeping the yeti coolers and using them at the burn last year for food storage. They worked great I only had to add some block ice once on friday. If I was in the market for a high end cooler and had to pay retail or close to it I'd probably go wit...

Re: UPS connected to genny for power surges dumb or worthwhi
I think I figured out my perfect solution thanks to a local burner. I saw his ac last year and completely forgot how he had set up ducting for it. Since I already know I can drive a 10k btu ac on playa I'll just duct it to have 2 hoses for output and 2 for input with small fans at the end of each tu...

Re: UPS connected to genny for power surges dumb or worthwhi
[quote="GreyCoyote"]You may find the usual de-rating rules for density altitude are not uniformly applicable to small gas generators. The problem is the generator design. You typically have a short-stroke, over-square, single-cylinder mill fed by a poorly designed pot-metal carb on a very short inta...

Re: UPS connected to genny for power surges dumb or worthwhi
With the heat and altitude, it might be better to assume 30% loss of available power. If the available amperage at that point is equal to or greater than maximum amperage drawn by your A/C units - go for it. UPS's are typically meant for computers and will probably fail after a couple hours if hook...

Re: UPS connected to genny for power surges dumb or worthwhi
I don't think there's a practical way to do what you're considering. By the time you buy the hardware you'll need you would be better off getting another Honda, which is an infinitely better solution anyway. I see 'em on craigslist for $650-ish. One EU2000 would be straining hard to run two 5 or 6k...

Re: UPS connected to genny for power surges dumb or worthwhi
If I understand correctly, you plan to plug the UPS into the genny, then plug two 5000 btu air conditioners into the UPS? I don't think the genny has the power to run both the AC's, and I don't think the UPS is made to make up the difference that way. :? i was thinking to maybe get one ups for each...

UPS connected to genny for power surges dumb or worthwhile?
I'm not sure if this is a retarded idea or not but I'm trying to figure out a way to run 2 ac units off a honda eu2000i speced at 2000w maximum 16.7 amps max with a constant running rating of 1600w 13.3 amps. on paper it has enough watts and amps to run 2 efficient 5000btu at roughly 600 watts and 5...

Re: thinking of running a little bar on playa got any tips?
There is nothing wrong with also serving beer, but it seems like you should only do it if you enjoy the idea, not because you're worried about the reaction of people who don't adore the evening's special. There are other bars out there they can patronize. A lot of Burners will have beer that they s...
