Tricycle fabbing advice: bending square tube
Hi Everyone, I am making a two seat tricycle with side-by-side seats. I want to bend 2" aluminum square tubing over a large radius (26"). I don't have the proper tool. Have you folks ever done something like the 'cut nearly all the way through tube, bend, and weld back together' way shown in this vi...

Re: Knots! Show me your Knots!
This is my favorite knot algorithm. It's easy to learn and the knot is super useful. I use it all the time to lash stuff down tight with a trucker's hitch. With reasonable quality rope, this rope has never jammed on me. YouTube -- Lineman's Hitch I prefer rope, but it's expensive. My new shade struc...

Become a Certified Nerd -- get a ham license and use an APRS tracker. $120 on Amazon and a test you can pass with a few hours of cramming. You're track will be immortalized on the tubes, and you'll be sought out, real time, by old school Nerds, cool folk who talk vacuum tubes and make rigging lasers.

Re: Camp Perimeter Lights - Battery/Solar Powered
Check my math. It's not guaranteed. I checked it with my own vague rules of thumb. I think you're about right. I came up with about $2,300 for a solar system. Here's a Google Doc spreadsheet of my math. I am some shade of environmentalist, and so have a natural enthusiasm for solar systems. But for...

Re: Cargo bike?
How wide of a tire can you get on the front? The front is a 24x1.75 wheel. The fork seems like it'll fit up to a 2.75" wheel. I didn't think of trying a fatter rim and wheel in this bike. That could be easy and make a big difference. Thank you. In addition to your mid-drive for the rear wheel, if y...

Cargo bike?
Hi All, Do any of you have experience with a cargo bike on the playa? I am about to try one, but worry the small front wheel will get too easily stuck in dust gators. In my experience deep soft spots are rare and easily avoided on the playa, but plentiful on city streets. Especially in our neighborh...

Two layers of Black Shade Cloth, or Aluminet-Black?
Hi All, Have you guys ever used two layers of 90% Black Shade Cloth? Were you satisfied with the shade and wind transparency? Did the material get hot and radiate downward, like a tarp? In years past I layered Aluminet on top of the 90% Black. To make a deeper shade than just one alone. We liked tha...

Ok, that was me, that you cut and pasted from the Kidsville list and posted on Eplaya. That feels a little rude, but se la vis. I've now read the entire thread here. And I am a parent. And this will be my third year in Kidsville with my kids. And, really, I am completely certain that you should not ...

Sounds cool. The airport (88NV) is closed at night, so to do night performances you may have to stage them from the airport at Winnemucca. I've flown at the event and think the random dust swirls and darkwads (some of them with bikes!) would make a night jump very scary, even in good weather. I thin...

Metal fabrication- pipe bending, drill presses
Hi Guys, I need to put a slight bend in 1" square aluminum tubing. 24" lengths need a mellow bend so that the center is about 2" off from a straight line. What is the best tool or way to do this? Harbor Freight has 'pipe benders', hydraulic benders, and floor mounted things, and a thing with a wheel...

Rodiponer: Is that 70% aluminet? Looks like it's doing a good job! That's 90% black shade cloth with 70% shade cloth towards the top of the wall and on the ceiling. You can see where it gets darker on the wall where the aluminet starts. We first bought 90% black shade cloth, but the shade wasn't as...

OK, while we're on the subject, using aluminet to cover art vehicles. Can the 30% really give you enough visability to not run over your fellow burners? I just worry about safety (it ranks third Hi Doc, The 30% is so sparse that it looks a bit like a fishing net, to me. It shouldn't be a problem at...

Hi Robai, Your bus solar system is superduper. I don't think you need to change anything about it. Do you have an inverter to make AC power? This is the easiest, most off the shelf way to charge your trike battery pack. Other ways are more nerdy. If you go with a hub motor, I think you really need a...

I bought water in Gerlach last year. The water department was selling it. It was mentioned in the JRS, and then there were signs everywhere as we drove through.
