Re: Anyone have experience with this turbine?
The inverter on this turbine converts to AC to minimize current loss until it reaches the charge controller which converts it back to DC. I doubt you could power any AC appliance with this directly, no matter how steady the wind. As noted above, you'd have to get this turbine at least twenty feet up...

Re: Harbor Freight Solar Panels?
A few burns back we did a demo as part of the AEZ tour where we contrasted the output of a the Harbor Freight triple panel 45watt setup versus a single 45watt monocrystalline panel. In direct sunlight the single 27"X25" crystalline panel (which sells on ebay for about sixty bucks) produced twice the...

Re: Tent Questions!
I'll +1 Trishntek's recommendation of a Kodiak. My campmates have one and they're really well-made, hold up to strong winds and set up easily. I'd also recommend my 10X10 Springbar tent, which while lighter and better suited for backpacking, is more expensive than the similar Kodiak. Mine served me ...

Re: We need tips for buying a used RV
...Playa dust is very corrosive, and accelerates rust.... I have a great tip for very effectively treating and preventing rust, for RVs, other vehicles or metal structures. Easy, DIY & cheap too. Where best to post it? Sorry for thread drifting but we use tannic acid on rusted artifacts and the tan...

Re: Suggested RV Fix-It Kit?
There's a lot of terrific advice in this thread. My 2 cents. It's said there are two types of RVs- those that leak and those that are gonna leak, so I'd add a roll of eternabond tape to your kit. It works great for sealing leaks and sticks to wet surfaces. I'd also get a bottle of LP leak tester. It...

Re: BLM is OUT OF CONTROL.
Hoolie you are most correct. For someone to be hindering they would have to take the initiative to furnish authorities with information they know to be not true, i.e. lying about whether they are holding, etc. Volunteering false information is hindering. Exercising your constitutional rights to avoi...

Re: RV Purchase Advice Needed!
Mosin- Pandora's a thing of beauty. I love what you've done in the doghouse, that 440 is cherry. Edelbrock, Hedman's, very nicely done. A well restored old RV trumps the modern rental experience hands down in my book. I'll look out for her next year on the playa. Jcliff- I'd say go for it and paint ...

Re: Cleaning Tips?
I'd like to thank whoever had the tip about putting an oscillating lawn sprinkler under their vehicle to clean the undercarriage (I think it was Ygmir?). I stuck one under my truck last weekend and even after two underflush car washes I was amazed at all the gunk that dripped out.

Re: RV Purchase Advice Needed!
Congratulations! http://www.samstoybox.com/teardrop/chevallero/literature/ has got some relevant info about the proud history of your new old home on the road. I don't know if it comes with the manual- if not you'll want to use that degree in Googleology to seek one out. Last bits of advice- join Go...

Re: RV Purchase Advice Needed!
Whether it's trailer or a motorhome, there's two types of RVs- those that leak and those that are going to leak. Seeing that's a forty year old Chevallero Sportcoach, I'd bet on the former. Recommend find someone who can check out the interior and exterior for water damage, since water over long per...

Re: playa bike care
Just got around to cleaning up the playa bikes. Removed the EL wire drivers and blinkies, blasted everything with a pressure washer (including the faux fur on the frame tubes) , let dry and then spray with WD-40 to disperse any water in the bearings and gears. Lubed the chain, wheel bearings, cranks...

Oriental rug bought on the cheap @ Deseret Industries really tied the monkey hut together, plus hardly had to use the little dustpan and broom in the tents. Made a habit of changing TP rolls early throughout the year resulting in many short rolls of TP to hand out to distressed morning potty patrons...

Chainsaw oil is cheap and works well, also known as bar and chain oil. If you must use an aerosol product, go with motorcycle chain lubricant. I'd avoid graphite, as it's potentially corrosive, and paraffin wax doesn't actually lubricate the chain. You can always pour the chainsaw oil into tiny litt...

greeting from the Zion curtain
I'm a newbie from Utah, awaiting my ticket and studying the guide. Thanks in advance for all the info on this forum- have always wanted to go but work got in the way, now looking forward to finally using the goggles, dustmasks, jerry cans and silly hats I've been storing all these years.
