Still gotta say, if you buy from a scalper please don't consider yourself a burner. Re: Only one ticket allowed from step?
And PS - I would not have a SHRED of guilt about buying a scalped ticket at this point.
I don't blame you.

If people want to be outraged and shame other burners I would start with anyone that gamed the lottery so they could get an advantage over their fellow burners.

Re: Only one ticket allowed from step?

I haven't posted on eplaya while I waited for BMorg to sort things out. I would have preferred that the 10K open ticket sales were sold to anyone who applied for them as was advertised since honest burners made their ticket plans based on what they were told by BMorg. Having said that some considera...

as a land windsurfer I talked at length to several folks last year. basically land windsurfing where the mast is attached to your board with a flexible universal mast mount is legal. we sailed the poop out at 9:00 despite the crappy conditions. Had one day where the wind turned straight up west and...

The only issue I have with a big tent is it can catch a lot of wind. Not a deal breaker [my GF and I will be using a 6 person Coleman tent that survived in 2007], but I'd do any or all of the following: - stake it out with 12" pegs or rebar - use all the extra guy lines that come with the tent - hav...

Re: Come Visit Black Rock Yacht Club - and landboarding

You guys should all just come visit the Black Rock Yacht Club! We are actually a sanctioned theme camp with a love for the wind. We teach playa-sailing and are a crew of kiters, windsurfers, and sailors from the bay area and beyond. We usually rig up a dozen or so land boards and sails and let peop...

You don't want a "standard" black plastic evap pond to get more than about 1/2" deep. Deeper is bad. If you need to evap more, use towels. Or just take it home. Martini Steve Good point. I hadn't thought of that. I may bring an old towel with me just to aid in the evap process. Although for my 6' x...

Re: easy evap pond ideas?

So here's the deal, 2 of us are going to be flying in from the east coast (atl baby). One of the things we're having a hard time figuring out is what to do for an evap pond. Anyone have an easy suggestion? The idea so far is just building a square frame w/ 2x4s and laying down black plastic to form...

I don't like having to use AC or DC power for my camp needs at BRC or any camping I do. I also didn't find getting ice at Burning Man was a chore. I'm not a fan of generators running as they can make it hard to sleep/camp if you are next to them. I'll probably do one cooler with dry ice this year fo...

I believe these board kite sailors are good candidates for the Darwin Awards this year. There are art instalations all the way out to the trash fence. I hope you don't hit one or some burner sleeping on the ground out there. If you are tied to the sail you are not in control. Land sails are banned ...

That would be a kite buggy, another thrill sport. The obvious BRC-DMV objections are that neither can be controlled very well, they're impossible to keep under 5 mph, and they can't be stopped on a dime to avoid hitting people, art, rebar, etc. The not so obvious objection is that they piss off the...

I remember seeing guys flying around the open playa on those things years ago, seems like they went pretty fast, maybe 30-35mph, but that back when early entry was as easy as showing up early. 30-35mph would be insanely fast for a kite and a mtn board. You only want to ride as fast as you can handl...

Vikb, I am sure you have researched our little rules about wind-powered craft. I think that the concern stems from large, heavy and dangerous objects without brakes. If your skateboard can become an uncontrollable projectile, then it may become a safety hazard. I know you will have fun anyway. :) T...

I cut up a cheap tarp and used shoe goo to glue sections to my tent where there was mesh. That left me with two large doors that I could leave open or unzip the mesh covers when I wanted ventilation and close when it was stormy. Worked great in 2007 and I'm going to use the same tent again this year.
