I love your Mutant. I am sorry we couldn't make the studio large enough to fit you. For high wind safety we capped the studio at the 30' height. If we do it again, I will build it from system scaffold which will be more rigid and use a multiple layer of shade cloth to still transmit wind as the back...

I just got back into civilization yesterday. I will dark room print the images and then scan the prints. Nothing will be posted for at least the next two months while I work through the images. I will put them up on my website once they are complete. Thanks for swinging by the studio.

Thinking about this level of heat, I could provide a mister well above your critical discharge area. This would dampen the air and help absorb thermal energy without displacing operative ignition conditions. Your MV produces an extremely large flame thrower, one of the larger I have seen on the Play...

I am intending to build this on the playa and not in the camps. There is a 8 ft gap in the top of the studio, this runs the entire 80' of the studio. This gap is between the seamless and the diffusion flat. This would be a 640 square foot area that would allow for heat exiting and dissipation. Also ...
will you be using black and white or color for the mutants? i didnt look thru them all, but the portraits i saw were all black and white which sort of added a steam-punk aesthetic to them... and yes, it is evident you know your lighting.
I'll be using B/W type-55 ...

The cool thing about the studio is that the camera can change in proximity to the MV photographing the smallest MV to the largest (my guess was 68 feet?) while maintaining the look of the portraits. In the picture the smallest of MV will look similar to the largest by how they are framed in the Pola...

My bad about the cross posting. I'm new to Eplaya and it won't happen again. I use the middle name, because there is another gentleman who also happens to be a photographer out of London that goes by Owen Kelly. I try to keep my ego humble and healthy, but interesting theory on the middle name thing...

Evolution of the BRC Playa Portraits

The project title is the BRC Playa Portraits. My intention is to build a large-scale studio to photograph and honor the Mutant Vehicles of Burning Man at Black Rock City, Nevada in September of 2009. The portraits will be photographed on a medium that is at the edge of extinction, 4x5 type-55 Polaro...

2009 BRC Playa Portraits

Hello fellow burners, My name is Owen. This will be my fifth year attending BM. I have created functional art installations every year I have attended. These installations were more utilitarian based and used within the camp. These projects have progressively grown. Last year I started the 2008 BRC ...
