Re: What was wrong with the lottery?

Yes! Thank you Token, that was it exactly.

Now I'm thinking DGS followed by lottery might not be a bad method.

Re: Scanner for Rangers, ESD, etc?

Nice! 2nd reply is a "You're doing it wrong!". Good of eplaya to not disappoint. Perhaps one way of participating is to share information with those around me, as in "Rangers just said there's a massive dust storm / rainfall coming our way". Maybe I sometimes just want to lie back in my camp and rel...

What was wrong with the lottery?

This is (shockingly) not snark, but an honest question based on a horrible memory. Didn't we have a lottery in 2010 or 2011? I remember there being a lot of griping about it, but not what the gripes were. It couldn't have been any less fair than yesterday's seemingly random ticket distribution, and ...

Scanner for Rangers, ESD, etc?

I know very little about radio frequency and technology, but think it could be interesting to listen to Ranger radio, ESD, Art Support, Gate, etc. Are there scanners, like police scanners, that would work for those? I obviously don't want to interfere or broadcast (I know to get a MURS radio to broa...

Ah, they're 1/2" x 24". So it sounds like these will work just fine.

Thanks!

Only 6" of 24" lag screw is threaded

I've joined the converted and am moving from rebar to lag screws this year. I ordered a bunch of 24" lag screws, and they came today. Unfortunately, only the first 6" of them is threaded, the rest is just plain shank. Will these hold okay? I'm planning to drive them 12" - 18" into the playa to be th...

Want to host a spanking class?

I'm looking for camps in which to teach my spanking class this year. The village that I run doesn't really have a good space for it. I've taught this class on Playa for a bunch of years, and can provide references from camps who have hosted in the past. It's an hour long class, in a lecture/demo for...

Vice grips are okay, I guess. I have an actual stake puller that makes even the toughest rebar pulling almost effortless.

Re: Cordless hammer drill to drive rebar?

Okay, after spending ALL morning reading the lag screw threads, I'm a convert. I'll be using a DeWalt 885 impact driver at 116 ft-lb (converted from their stated 1400 in-lb) of torque, and charging the batteries on my solar Yeti 400. I'll be using 1/2" x 24" for the monkey hut (I've been using 2' re...

Thanks. You seem to be suggesting exactly what I said I wasn't going to do - lag screws and a generator. :)

Good info re: the 5 ft-lb, though.

Cordless hammer drill to drive rebar?

I was looking at the Litebrite rebar hammer, which is a bit of overkill for my needs (plus our Village is a no generator zone). Most of the hammer drill vs drill driver discussion I've seen is about lag screws, but rebar works great for my monkey hut so I intend to keep using it. My question is if a...

Looking for camps at which to teach kinky things!

After taking a sabbatical from teaching last year, I'm ready to jump back in. I'd like to teach about 4 times this year, and I'm looking for camps with adult oriented spaces that can host me. Each of my classes is about an hour long. If you'd like me to teach at your camp, please let me know ASAP. I...

Re: Thinking about Radios for your camp? Read Me First!!!

I wish BMIR was actually Burning Man *Information* Radio, instead of hours of music, much of which is not to my taste, interspersed with seconds of information. I have often wished that there was one BMIR for music, interviews, etc. and a second frequency for PSA's, theme camp event announcements, g...

First off, WOW! This is exactly the information I was looking for, and all in one comprehensive post. Bravo!!! You mention that most of the internal radio communication used is encrypted. I'm assuming you mean departments like Gate, Rangers, FAST, etc. While I would NEVER want to interfere with any ...

Anyone hosting a song circle?

I stumbled across a song circle one afternoon several years ago, and it was a blast. Does anyone know of a camp hosting one this year?

I don't have the space or energy to organize one this year. Maybe next year.

Re: Rootpile is looking for bluegrass pickers

Sadly I do not (yet) play bluegrass. I play Old Time and mostly British Isles (morris dance and irish mostly). I'll come by with my mando and maybe you can help start my bluegrass journey. I'm pretty sure we'll know at least a few tunes in common.

It was my error after all

In the spirit of full honesty and transparency, I'm a bozo. I was cleaning out my car...

Re: Got my ticket - but not really

I just spoke with Ticketfly customer support. The person with whom I spoke had to relay everything back and forth to their manager, with whom I was unable to speak directly. She then told me that they hadn't been trained on Burning Man tickets, which was a bit of a shock since they are the sole vend...

Got my ticket - but not really

I wasn't home to receive the delivery yesterday, so today at lunch I went down to the Post Office to pick up my package. Inside was my receipt, a survival guide, a vehicle pass, a postcard, and an Atomic Fireball. But no ticket. Has this happened to anyone else? Ticketfly's support line doesn't open...

Re: Renting a gray water tank?

Okay, let me try again. Does anyone have any suggestions exactly where one might rent a gray water tank in the Bay Area?

This may be moot - my spouse pointed out a place to me that might work to store it during the year, so I might just buy one or two.

Renting a gray water tank?

I'm thinking of building a shower this year, which would require a gray water holding tank, probably not more than a 55 gallon one. I know that the plastic barrels are pretty cheap, but I don't really have a good place to store it during the year, so I'm wondering if one can be rented in the Bay Area.

Total cost (ticket & VP, or 2 tickets and VP)

It looks like the total cost out of pocket for one ticket and one vehicle pass will be $530, and for 2 tickets and a vehicle pass it will be $961. Best to make sure you have a bit more than this available on your credit / debit card when the time comes. I think I have all the bits and pieces here, p...

I just read the 2015 census results on the Afterburn page. On the page titled "Ticket Sales" they asked where burners got their tickets. Most people got their tickets through the General Sale (45%) and the Directed Group Sale (21.5%). As many people got tickets through people they knew (21.5%) as fr...

Re: Fundraiser: School Of Consensual Kink

An excellent question! A tasting is where people can get a taste of a BDSM activity, such as seeing what it's like to get a spanking, to be tied up, etc. It's a way to get a taste of kink in a safe, structured environment
