Re: Fantasy football drafting from BM? :(...
By Saturday, you're kind of hosed. You might be lucky to get an email out after about 10 tries and even that will take several minutes to clear your outbox. Come saturday the wifi at center camp is saturated since the city is at capacity the day of the burn. A phone call will be dodgy at best. Depen...

You've gone from bad to worse with that 4 pole shade structure. That thing is a disaster just waiting to happen.

Re: Tips for Shy People at Burning Man
I've always struggled with self doubt and intense self critique that keeps me from reaching out. My normal assumption is that I'm just not that interesting compared to all the amazing people I meet, especially on the playa. Thanks to the people on eplaya who offered wonderful suggestions before head...

Re: Greywater evaporation for the enterprising contraptionee
Wow! Looking awesome.
A couple years back I built a version of the original single large disc. It worked well but I have often imagined ways to make it more a work of art. Sadly I haven't had a need for an evap pond since then.
Well done. I love the design and the compact foot print for transport.

Re: Ticket Paranoia!!!
I have mine and my girlfriends in my Burning Man drawer of essential items and tools that go with me every year. Even though I know they're in there I can't get to sleep at night unless I peek in and touch them and say good night. It's freaking me out. I realize the only solution to this is to just ...

Re: hurricane tarp for shade structure???
You should be fine. 10 mil is a decent thickness and having grommets every 18" is a better way to go. Last year we were camping at 7:15 & C (C frontage) on the side away from the man. I setup my monkey hut broadsides to the wind coming from the SW, I didn't want to create a wind tunnel having the op...

Re: hurricane tarp for shade structure???
I wouldn't feel comfortable using that brown poly tarp. It's only 7 mil which is definitely on the thin side, plus the grommets are spaced 24 inches apart leaving a lot of stress to fewer grommets. UV wise I think it should be fine, the site doesn't provide much information to go off. As for water p...

I've picked up a couple tidbits. The first and only real rule is that the dust will get in you can only try to mitigate it. Try and get all your gear up off the playa. I have stands for my speakers. If you use stands make sure they are securely anchored against the wind. In years past with older spe...

I think I understand what you're asking. For the MH the rebar that the PVC slips over on either end of each rib is put in straight. You want to drive the rebar at least half way in, probably just a bit past half way. You want the rebar 90 degrees to the ground. The Monkey Hut instructions should exp...

We have people in our camp who suddenly had to work for the first 3 days of the week next week. They are now flying in. We are hauling all their supplies so they can hop on the plane with a backpack and a jacket. They booked a small economy rental car. They land in Reno, get their car and drive out ...

WHAT??? No CO Poisoning this year?!?!?!?! Ohhhh man. The burn was better last year. I thought this was Burning Man, not Nanny Man. I never get to have any fun. All joking aside. I appreciate the input Token. I am looking up the Venturi Effect now. I don't have my catalog of Mr. Wizard videos so I am...

Those bafflings RVs
As luck would have it around this time of year. I suddenly find myself with the ability to go to the Burn. HALLELUJAH! I will be joining a friend who is going in an RV this year. This is my 5th burn but first time in an RV and I am trying to learn all I can about being a good RV burner. I was hoping...

Last year I wrapped my beach cruiser with orange fur. I bought 2 yards and cut it into 3" wide strips the length of the fabric and then wrapped it edge to edge at a slight angle, trimming the pieces to fit the various areas on the bike. At the ends of each piece I just zip tied it down tight. It's b...

Putting your coolers up on bricks helps a lot. The desert floor is not your friend for keeping food cold. Another thing that works is to wrap each cooler in Reflectix. You can find it at Lowe's. It's mylar bubble insulation. I had two coolers last year, wrapped them both. One was the deep freeze coo...

Can you get your hands on a vacuum sealer? That will change your life, like seeing Jesus on toast! Premake your food, vacuum seal it, then freeze those mofos. Depending on what you make and if you need extra prep, garnish, etc. most of your time will only be spent boiling those bags in hot water. No...

Last year a guy in our camp was on a 6 month RV cruise of America and he was towing a trailer with his quad and street motorcycle. An 80W system is going to get swallowed out on the playa unless you plan to camp out past G. Even small camps that are just providing music for camp mates tend to be pretty beefy. Our DJ uses 2 - Behringer B212XL 12" 800W with a separate sub. I don't know what amp he uses though. That allowed us to ...

I could not agree with Eric more. Last year was my 4th year. My 3rd year was one of those years that went wrong in so many ways it was enough for 3 people and I had thought of never coming back. Last year I brought a great friend of mine to his first burn and it was great. One of my best years yet. ...

My story, for what it's worth. In 2006, I had a group of I was going to be caravaning with and everyone dropped out at the last minute, I was meeting a theme camp once I arrived so I wasn't to stressed. I had an SUV and just me now heading to BM. I hopped on the ride share board and posted that I ha...

Howdy to all, First time poster, 4th time burner. My last adventure to the playa was in 2007. I took 2008 off. 2007 was an awful year on the playa for me.
