So! For my tent shade (and possibly a shade structure too), I'm planning to glue mylar sheeting to a standard tarp with some of that wonderful 3M spray adhesive. Depending on how well the mylar survives being glued to a tarp, I may also add a tougher clear plastic sheet on top as well to protect it ...
