Re: 3d printable Hexayurt cutter
Fair point, but the angles aren’t that sharp so I’m not sure it’d be an issue. Many people already do it, I just had an idea to 3D print a jig to make it easier.
Can anyone who’s bevelled the edges of their yurt pipe up and tell us how well they wear after a few years?

3d printable Hexayurt cutter
Hi everyone, Here's a model for a 3d printable Hexayurt cutter. Print one, slide in a standard 18mm snap-off blade into one of the slots and push it across the edge of a polyiso panel to make perfect bevelled cuts at either 15° or 30°. This is an alpha version as I'm not able to test it against a re...
Dude, you know about the new 5050 SMD RGB LEDs with integrated WS2811 controllers right? Buck a piece or so in quantity from a US distributor, or $50-$60 per 4m roll (60 LEDs/m) direct from China.
Yeah, but that's about one LED every 1.6cm. While that's much better than the ...

Re: HexaYurts
Completed: http://gallery.me.com/ratkins/100037/IMG_1467 I'm done now and it all went pretty well, except I had to re-do one thing: the joins between the two 4'x4' panels (the inner "concertinas" in the above linked diagram) need to be "loose hinges", i.e., one panel thickness in between, otherwise...

Re: HexaYurts
whatever you do: make a model , even if just paper, cereal box cardboard, but box cardboard with some thickness lets you see how the different types of hinges work so you can visualize where you want what. Gah, thank you Canoe. I knew this but you just goaded me into spending the fifteen minutes re...

Re: HexaYurts
I watched the video, thanks for that, and the "net" shown above for the "normal" 6' stretch was what I was thinking of. I'm wondering if not having a single tape lengh from the end wall joins, up over the long axis of the roof joint and all the way down the other side might compromise strength? I've...

Re: HexaYurts
I'm planning on building a 6' semi-folding stretch yurt using the Camp Danger hinges. Am I right in thinking I won't need any "loose" hinges at all? I'm not exactly sure what I should hinge to minimize both packed thickness and on-Playa setup time. Has anyone done a 6' semi-folding stretch who can o...

Singapore Burning Beers, the second!
Hi all, Those who are indeed coming back to Singapore from BRC 2010 will have arrived by now so it's time to have another little gathering. There have even been whispers of plans of some sort of decompression event! If you'd like to be involved with that, please come along. This is an open invitatio...

Burners in Singapore?
I've just arrived here to start a new job (meaning I missed the Aussie regional ). I made a shout-out on the asiaburners.org list but didn't get any responses and not much from the FB group either. Any other Singapore-based burners want to get together for a beer and either cry into it if you d...

Aha. This is why I am seeking the boot of enlightenment up my arse which I'm sure a stint with the DPW would provide :-). Are there any other organisations, on-playa or off, who are seeking volunteers after the event? Cheers, Robert. (And btw, ristretto. If you're going to drink coffee, drink *coffe...

Volunteering with the DPW
Does the DPW need volunteers post-burn? I've emailed dpwvolunteers@burningman.com but haven't got a response (I guess they're busy right now :-). I don't have any particular skills aside from not being an idiot and having the time to hang around on the playa for a month after the event. Also, anyone...
