Well, it's not my tent. It's just a shade structure. If it gets wet, sags and looks butt ugly for awhile, it'll just look like most of the rest of BRC after a rain. I can just undo the spring clamps and reclamp after the rain.

I got plenty of good advice on this thread, thanks everybody. I eyeballed 3 layers of burlap and it seems to more than 50% but less than 90%. I will bring the broom, beat the dust out, and add a supplemental independent tarp lean-to shade on the south-east to cut the worst of the rays and give us a ...

Bring a broom or rug-beater to smack the accumulated dust out of the burlap. A dust magnet fer shure. Thanks for the advice, I've added that to my packing list. AntiM, one of the reasons I went with burlap was your comments about using it in other posts, other threads. How do you layer it for your ...

Burlap - how many layers?

I have built my prototype shade structure and it looks pretty good, considering the exterior is burlap. I originally wanted to use greenhouse shade cloth (knitted, 90%) but the quote I got (from Carlin Sales) was way too high. I decided to go then with burlap because (1) so many burners use it and (...

And I was a little snarky as well. I'm sorry. That's cool. For years our friends having been evangelizing us to go back to Burning Man, as if having kids in school was a minor inconvenience. I know teachers, students, and parents of students all who want to go to Burning Man but can't until they ge...

This will be the second for wife and me.

The first was in . . . 98!

We had kid freedom back then, right after 98 we lost that freedom and became full time nannies. Now this year the youngest girl has turned 18 and run off to college. So finally we can come back to Burning Man.

We are 47 and 45.

Unable to set avatar for profile

I have tried a number of graphics which are 75 x 75 and much less than the listed max size for files for use as avatar. I have tried uploading from my computer and also tried selecting via URL. I keep getting this error:

Unable to upload file

DEBUG MODE

I am considering adapting my Coleman Geosport for the playa this year as well. I am concerned about reports about the plastic connectors fracturing in high wind: http://bm.tribe.net/thread/41fe41e4-f78e-48dd-b172-8018af3393ba On the other hand other posters state their Geosports survived the winds i...

FRS Radios

So to correct my early numbskull remarks about FRS radios: a friend explained to me last night that all the Motorola privacy codes do is make the conversations of other people using other codes inaudible. If you are both on the same channel, and key at the same time, who can hear who depends on dist...

been playing with this lately. I like putting it upside down on the floor or ground and it makes a nice pattern of lights on the ceiling. I used this under my shade shelter this last burn, and enjoyed the lights on both sides of the light colored nylon. http://www.poolproducts.com/SPP/productr.asp?...

The Motorola Talkabout 280 offers 38 privacy codes for the 14 channels which effectively expands the number of lines to nearly 500. It shouldn't be too difficult finding a clear line if you play with the privacy codes.
