Re: The 2017 Bah—Humbug! Thread, where we deal with Depression and Stuff

Our Christmas lights for the house go up Thanksgiving weekend, or whichever weekend after Halloween is dry before the snow piles up on the roof. We skipped roof lights at least once when we had a big storm in October. My neighbors already have a tree up in their picture window. I still have all my f...

Re: The 2017 Bah—Humbug! Thread, where we deal with Depression and Stuff

It is unseasonally warm here, but the light is diminishing. I am already beginning to hibernate. All my art supplies are set up, but I am not moved to paint or paste.

Yep, time to turn on the light box, and force myself to move.

Indeed. We have maple seeds in strange places, and they're pretty much playa colored in the first place.

Re: Segways in Burning Man

I like seeing some of the more radically decorated Segways. They're fun. I've only seen one person being terrible, a clueless girl all in silver sparkles and feathers, who rode right through the DPW parade. I'm surprised they didn't eat her heart. Personally, if I could afford one, and one which I w...

We have one of those dashboard solar panels made specifically to keep the battery topped off when the vehicle is parked. Some years we forget to use it, but we rarely get into the truck.

I know you don't want to cook, but do consider a small butane stove to heat water. A cup of tea or some ramen noodles can be just the thing after a late night, or an early morning.

Do the drive. A cross-country drive does not come around often unless you're a trucker or in the military, so go for it. The changing landscape is fascinating.

Plastic hula skirts generate MOOP like mad. I picked up a lot of that shit this year, blown into our camp. Almost as bad as feathers.

Ah, RHPS. The Six Minute Players do a shadow cast on Friday at midnight at Videorgasm. Audience participation, but it doesn't mean joining the cast. We had a second Frankie for a moment or so. LOL, Narrator, my ass. It is Criminologist, please and thank you. Yes, I have no neck. 262A9720 (1).jpg

Someone used to hang plastic bottles with the tops cut off, full of OB tampons, on the posts next to the porto potties. The problem was, there was zero dust protection, even wrapped tampons can be a bit off putting covered in dust, and there was no way to impart the information that a used tampon sh...

Good morning campers. We are going to the Utah Decomp on the 28th. Worst weekend to pick, that's also Witchstock in Ogden and I wanted to go to that. But we were asked nicely, and we see so little of our community these days, it seems a good idea. Way to go Rhino. Well done. :coffee: :coffee: :coffee:

Re: Deep playa art

I did a placed piece back in 06, so I am hardly an expert. It was called Five Minutes After, and was placed at five after the noon clock behind the man, but the placer had given my spot to a different piece. I was still in nearly the same spot, which was okay, and how I learned about the placing pro...

Re: Deep playa art

One thing about renegade art, be sure you aren't usurping placed art which may be late setting up. The Artery uses GPS and places markers on the ground, but these can be difficult to discern, even with a human guide. Registering as a drop in helps avoid this conundrum, so consider doing it that way....

Re: "Dont divorce your parakeet"

No huge changes here, but like BBadger, the event permeates our lives. Certainly has dictated what vehicles we purchased. But I tend to agree that someone with an established life they love shouldn't throw everything over for a handful of dust. Perhaps an unencumbered person who is at a juncture can...

Yeah, it was a challenging year in many ways.

Sounds like you need something other than an Esplanade super-camp. I've successfully avoided them for a very long time. Back streets is where it is at.

Re: Any Go/Weiqi players planning to attend 2018?

Our first year, we brought a friend along. He brought an entire box of books. Not just one or two, a boxful. Just something to lug out and back. We have a light up frisbee which has been back and forth to the playa for over ten years in our light box. A campmate might have used it once. Bring the se...

Re: Best playa tent

Older thread, but an eternal question. My friends just got a baby Kodiak which fits under our clamshell carports. They are very happy with it, but the key is it works with the carport set up we already have. The Sibleys are pretty, but I haven't seen one in person. Not sure how dustproofy they are, ...
