Re: Deep playa cargo crash
The journey is at least as much fun as getting to the destination. That's always the big clue. I'm putting up a site, http://cargocrash.thefirehoop.net and placing this art description there. From there, people can start crystallizing their vision of the cargo crash. Prolly take me a day or two afte...

Re: Deep playa cargo crash
I think this would make a awesome CORE project. I can see it as a playa version of the 'Miracle on the Hudson' plane crash... although everyone survived the Hudson. I thought about that too. The problem is the core projects are these monolithic structures designed to burn in one piece. The art is n...

Re: Deep playa cargo crash
Let's say you wanted to build a model of how this works. Who has done this successfully, what groups or individuals have already managed this type of endeavor and have the 'blueprint' for pulling it off?

Re: Deep playa cargo crash
Thanks for the replies. I'm open to people getting on board to make this flight happen. I'm wondering about things like distributed art. Collecting a team that's geographically separated but all coordinating and choosing things they want to work on as a team that gets together on the playa to build ...

Deep playa cargo crash
Usually when the theme is announced, my fevered imagination starts percolating. Here's the result from this year's theme: The Cargo Crash A plane has crashed in the desert. It's gone undiscovered since it went down many decades ago. It's a bit strange since the inhabitants are still in their seats a...

Never saw the GF picture shtick but saw lots of people thrown back on their ultimate resources to get that drink of weak koolaid. That puppet was one tough cookie.

Bring back the Beggar's Bar. Humiliate yourself in front of a puppet to get a swill of some cheap Koolaid. Guaranteed crowd pleaser.

I dreamed last night I was going to BM. Lately, my dreams of BM are all in city, village or country landscapes, not on the playa. This dream was in kind of a huge parking lot and the burn resembled a big flea market with camps set up in long rows in the parking stalls. I was so happy to be there I b...

After reading the petition, the counter-arguments and the responses I was prompted to reread a book about the decision making process ("How Great Decisions Get Made" by Don Maruska). I thought Andi's first post where he wrote about the importance of the small to medium art was an excellent point. The large scale art is exciting, but it's just one aspect in the continuum of the burn. Whether the dissident artists get their demands met or not will not really touch on the larger is...

No, I am being cowardly and bound by societal constraints, and I would kind of like to see that. Shut up! It's my camp, I can spectate if I want to GERBIL ON! Spectator camp...it's been done and done well by some yokels back in '01. Way fun, really fit my personal attitude at BM very well. Shout at...

I hope the theme comes back down to earth. Two years of ethereal mental constructs to build into art...not that it affected me in the slightest in my playa journeys, but I'm sure it inconvenienced those that tried to substantiate these concepts into real stuff. How about the Magic Garden? Giant art ...

One thing is for sure, the limit of the burn in terms of growth has almost been reached. Anyone want to wait eight or more straight hours to get out on Mondays? All living organisms seek to grow on some level. The BM org. is pushing growth as well. They have a vested interest in maintaining the even...

I swear one morning some yahoo got up with a megaphone to incite the crowd to whoop, holler and generally freak out, then the volunteers did a dance number on the cafe counters. Re: Is Burning Man a drug?
It seems to me that we go to Burning Man to flee reality. It's the same with all drugs. Maybe you do. When the desert whacks you once or twice, however, it tends to bring you back to here and now pretty darn quick or you start dying. If you're 'hooked' on Burning Man, then you're doing it wrong. Th...

Well, evidently, Burning Man is not dead beecause 30,000+ people just got back from doing a week in the desert watching him burn. It's arguable whether the event is living up to the hype of leavenotrace/radicalselfexpression/mindblowingartandcreativity/bestpartyontheplanet. I'm thinking the event is...

This was the first year I bought nada at center camp. I still miss the hay bales. I liked standing under the man's legs and looking out at the desert while Bob explained about the lake bed. The man getting hoisted up and down every day. I think the rough edges of BM are being swept under the carpet to make the event more acceptable to society. I sure as hell hope that no one is actively trying to make this event more acceptable to society. I believe I will still see acts of outrageous freedom out on the playa, but perhaps the ones...
