Re: Shade advice - traveling from London
The burner artist who made the Serpent Twins sells shade kits in various sizes that you can pick up in Oakland CA, or in Gerlach. The structure is made from EMT metal conduit. The kit includes the conduit for the legs and frame, fittings, bungee balls and tarps. I believe you provide your own method...

Re: 12 volt amp and bookshelf speakers
Thanks for the replies. I did get an amp, and I went to Marvac's (like Radio Shack) and found a power connector that fits the amp and has alligator clips to connect to a DC battery. So I don't have to butcher the AC-DC adaptor that came with the amp.
I'll see how it works next week!

12 volt amp and bookshelf speakers
I'm considering buying a small class T digital mini amp like the Topping TP21 or the Lepai TA2020 to power some bookshelf speakers so I can play tunes in my camp. Will it work? These amps come with an AC to DC adapter. I have a deep cycle 12 volt marine battery. If I cut the brick off the adapter, c...

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I bought some of those motorcycle glasses with the foam padding because I can't stand wearing goggles. One clear pair for night, and one tinted for day. Problem: the glasses are made for fat heads. (Nothing personal against Harley riders). My head is shaped more like the prow of a ship, and with the...

I'm preparing for Burning Man right now by listening to a Distrikt podcast from last year's event while I surf e-playa. (I'm hooked on this music now which along with a couple of strong cups of coffee really gets me going on a Sunday morning.) Looking at a post from JungleSmacks and admiring his bli...

Re: Recommendations for an old-lady-solo-new comer?
For my first burn, I couldn't make it to the playa until mid week because of job constraints. My wife wanted to go for the whole week. She sat through a dust storm in line on opening day, and then set up our tent and shade structure on her own. She's not a hair taller than 5' and we're in our 50's. ...

Re: Looking for the maker of this van shade
I built my van shade off the side of my van (not the back like in the pic you posted.) I used a combination of shade cloth and camo cloth, and I used pvc poles. Attached the cloth to the pvc using regular bungie-balls. It moves around a bit in the wind, but that's OK. Last year was the first year I ...

Re: Fears for tiers
If I am willing and able to purchase a ticket at the top price of $390, and if I register for tier 3, then it seems very wrong that I might only pay $240. Wrong in the sense that it makes that less expensive ticket un-available for someone who can't afford the higher price. Is that really the intent?

Behind him were two skeletons on fire, pedaling with flaming legs moving up and down with the pedals. From a distance, all you could see were the two flami...

My bucket cooler was less than optimal this year. I had it outside my van with about 3 feet of ducting going up into the side window of the van. The problem was that my fan was not powerful enough, the ducting was too long, and the cooler was on the sunny side of the van so the cool air warmed up qu...

As for silence, man, hearing that mammoth structure crackle and whoosh in silence was fucking awesome to even an atheist like myself! Absolutely! A trend that I do see happening more and more, which I don't care for is how when people are packing up their camps they'll leave stuff that they think others will want piled up around the street signs. Our neighbors left a cheezy pop-up shade structure. They were flying out, had bought it in Reno,...
