Re: 4:30 Neighborhood camps for 2012
Club Neu(nee Verboten) somewhat stunned to find our placement at 4;30 portal and Esplanade. Not exactly what we asked for and serious discussion amongst our shocked campers now underway on what to do about it. Warp Zone got bumped back from holding down the corner at 4:00 and A to 4:45 and G. Also k...

hi guys! do you remember Pipe Dream from 2011? maybe this will jog your memory: http://igor.moomers.org/bm/2011/photos/peter%27s%20photos/P1090096.JPG well, my collaborator WELCOTAR did a nice writeup of how we built this thing. you can read it here: http://www.moomers.org/~jered/pipe-dream/ we also...

wow. i'm sorry if i offended you personally. and i'm not shying away from the conversation, either. i just don't particularly want to get into a flame war with you, whereas you seem to be extremely focused on getting into one with me. why? look. i think that if i wanted to implement a system to scan...

lemur, why are we arguing here, and what are we arguing about? you claimed that since i talked the big talk I should offer my expertise to the org, and I agreed and thanked you. so the only other difference of opinion we have is: i think we should involve technology in smoothing the ticket process; ...

lol. armchair expert my ass. my software controls datacenters full of tens of thousands of servers, which must stay up no matter what, and the amount of money flowing through the pipes at those datacenters is WAAAAY more than a measly $20m. since it appears easy to you... we should just shutup about...

Re: Be part of the solution
The playa is unusually hard on electronics. Imagine trying to keep it functioning in a constant dust storm... would need to communicate with a central server... lets say 7 backups per gate, thats about 63 devices.... Paper tickets don't crash. i see this re-hashed on the forums over and over again....

oh! i have an even better idea. lets make the tickets just like really fucking huge. i mean like you need an entire pickup truck to just carry the ticket. this isn't your mother's movie ticket, no sir, this is like fucking 600# of cardboard. this would be great, because newbs don't have cars big eno...

oh. my. god. MORE PORTAPOTTIES! why didn't *I* think of that? listen, last year we camped across the road from this total spectator palace. we called it 'RV Fortress' cuz there was no way to get in really it was totally surrounded. they had people come out and build them a dome and bring out their R...

Is this the End of the World as We Know It? Yeah, maybe. Is it The End of The World? Nope. gah. everyone knows the world is not literally ending. even "burning man" is not ending, as evidenced by the extremely healthy ticket sales. everyone bitching and moaning on this board are doing so because we...

Re: 2012 Theme Camps - will you make it this year?
from what i'm hearing on eplaya, our camp is pretty lucky. collectively, for 21 people we have 10 tickets. we spent a bunch of money last year build a reusable theme camp, plus we're working on additional art this year that doesn't make sense anywhere but burning man. so.. hopefully we'll still be a...

Re: Wanna total mess over scalpers – here is an idea -
yes! great idea. the official ticket could even say right on it, DO NOT BUY FROM 3RD PARTIES. only the BMORG would be able to sell tickets. you could refund your ticket to the org at any time and another ticket would pop up for sale, with a new serial number/barcode/whatever. scalping just wouldn't ...

should be able to work something out (between networks of friends, the ticket exchange, and the open sale). But if you feel completely defeated or that the odds are impossible or that your hearts couldn't possibly be in it… don't do it. it's true. we can decide to not do it. but i would be very sad...

We have two more months before the open sale even begins for 1/5th of all the tickets, and another three months after that before tickets are even sent out. In the mean time, those scattered tickets can and will find their way into the hands of those who need them through the STEP program. people w...

this has been discussed on this board a thousand times. the population is capped by the blm. it is unreasonable to expect that the two-lane highway to gerlach can handle an unlimited amount of traffic -- it's basically at capacity already. so the cap is not going to suddenly evaporate if we all ask ...

Re: Web server demand is a solved problem
There are lots of solutions to horizontally scaling a ticket-selling app, and most of them are pretty easy. InTicket is just kinda bad at technology, which is consistent with BMOrg being generally really bad at technology (exhibit 1: BM rideshare; exhibit 2: the forms site for theme camps/MVs; exhib...

I tend to buy rope by the spool from McMaster-Carr -- they have a huge selection, good specs, reasonable prices, they ship quickly, plus I combine shipping with a thousand other items I buy at the same time. I like braided nylon in 1/4" to 1/2" sizes -- 1/2" begins to be a bit thick for tying tight ...
